Visitax Update Quintana Roo (Cancun/Riviera Maya/Playa Mujeres, surrounding areas). Flying out of CUN, CZM, TQO)

This legitimate Visitax has been in effect since 2021, however, enforcement upon departure from Cancun has been virtually nonexistent. There is information provided by travel agent, printed on Edocs/tickets, and QR Codes to scan and pay at CUN airport. However officials at CUN airport have not been asking travellers for proof of payment. I have visited personally multiple times, many colleagues and many clients and no one has been asked to show this receipt. According to this article the tax may now be increasing ($18usd to $25usd) and may be linked to your passport and flagged or imposed fines.

If you are wondering what this tax is for, the link is in the comments.

Personally I would rather see the visitax included in the ticket, perhaps eventually. Also, be advised the "Tourism tax" on your ticket is not the same thing, Canadian tour operters are NOT collecting Visitax on your behalf.

The state of Quintana Roo appears ready to make a hefty increase in its visitor tax. The exact amount will be known on 09JAN when Mexico sets the UMA rate for the country but speculation is that the VISITAX will increase by approx. 33%.
