The Delicate Utility Artwork and Handmade Leather Goods Years later, I now identify myself as a visual artist and an undercover typography geek.

went into school studying graphic design, but got caught up more in the handcrafting of my work than the digitized version and thus came out the other side with a portfolio of sculptures and paintings. Whether I am creating a collage painting or a sculptural garment, my work is assemblage in nature. Central to my practice is the encounter between disparate found materials, each containing an indiv

idual story. Over the years I have clung to a pair of words that express the dichotomy in my work- delicate utility (hence the shop title). In my sculptures I combine common utility materials often seen as temporary or disposable, such as chicken wire and paper towels, to create delicate and intricate long-lasting garments. Similarly, I meticulously layer collected papers such as napkins and place mats from around the world into intimate paintings examining the intersection between memory and experience. I am interested in looking closely at the items that surround us in our daily lives, reconfiguring them to bring about a new life and illustrate the unexpected beauty that is inherent in so many objects.
