When @travelwithgazelle asked me to train her for her climb to Mt Everest Base Camp, it was a challenge that I could not resist. There was a lot to do and very little time to do it…7 weeks before the climb. I designed and programmed a workout for 6 days a week…sometimes two workouts a day. The objective was to build stamina through functional training and climb simulations.
Climb simulations consisted of going up and down the stairs of an 18 storey building with full climbing gear (weighed knapsack, climbing boots) for three to five sets (a set = climb and descent).
During the 7 weeks of intense training, I pushed @travelwithgazelle to her limit and beyond…and she pushed right back with grit and determination. I had no doubt that she would conquer Mt Everest Base Camp.
This video shows of one of our functional workout sessions. The exercise is described below:
Five rounds of:
1. Row for 300m
2. Trap bar deadlift x 10
3. Air skips double taps (or jump rope or double under)x 50

There is one common difference between participants and spectators; between stage actors and audience, between a dream and reality. The difference is Action.
Taking action is not as hard as you might think…it is as simple as taking action. You want to run a mile someday, take action and start with walking a mile. Can’t walk a mile, walk half a mile or even a yard, and in no time, you’ll be running a mile.

What a journey! Honored to have shared this experience with @eightsnweights, @bomzee, @experienceswithginika and @travelwithgazelle // I climbed to Mount Everest Basecamp and wrote about it on my blog - showmeonething.com. This was the most difficult thing I’ve ever put my body through and it cost me sweat and tears. Thankfully, no blood. What a journey. I can do very hard things. Please let me know your thoughts about the story when you read it.
Reposted from @mister_a_fitness The distance between a dream and its realization is action. Many dream a lofty dream but few are bridge the gap to realization with action.
@travelwithgazelle is one of the few that are able to put actions to their dreams. One of such action was to train hard to realize her dream of climbing to Mt Everest base camp.
@travelwithgazelle, you showed up everyday and put in the work. Some days were hard. Some days were easy. Some days were emotional. Some days brought self-doubt. Some days brought fear. Some days were high. Some days were low. Everyday however was one day closer to realizing your dream.
Congratulations. Keep dreaming. Keep doing. Keep achieving.

Started watching the movie #Everest on the plane, then remembered people died in the movie and switched to the movie #mamiwata, which was written and directed by CJ Obasi. At least I knew I wasn't going to her domain. I know Everest Base Camp isn't the same as Everest summit/peak, but still, good vibes.
Slept in the 4-hour layover. Pretty long flights.
Updates will be sporadic.

I have always believed that you don’t know where you are going to until you know where you came from or where you have been. Knowing your identity will keep you grounded and stay focused.
The newly inaugurated John Randle Centre in Onikan, Lagos State, aims to celebrate the language, rituals, festivals, deities, and ancestry of the Yoruba people, and wants to ensure that the legacy of Yoruba culture and history are kept alive in Lagos.
It is an unparalleled experience in Lagos – a groundbreaking cultural attraction that will reveal to visitors the time-honoured story of Yoruba ethnicity.
The cultural centre is named after Dr John Randle, who was one of the first West Africans to qualify as a doctor in the United Kingdom. Dr. Randle fought for African doctors who served at the Lagos Colonial Hospital to be paid the same salary as their European colleagues with the same qualifications and training. Dr. John Randle also helped to set up the first political party in Lagos--The Peoples Union and contributed to many scholarships and philanthropic endeavours.
As a cultural centre, The John Randle Centre provides a space for art installations and live music events. It also hosts a museum and a swimming pool which will be open to the public.
As part of this trip, we were able to dive deep into the stories, myths, and traditions of Yoruba heritage, encountering immersive experiences from the dynamism of Yoruba festivals to the rich visual culture of Yoruba history and ancestry.

We had the privilege of having a private tour of Kosoko Palace, in Idumota, Lagos Island by Prince Abiola Olojo-Kosoko, @hrhabiolakosoko1 the current Oloja of Ereko, a direct descendant of the famous Oba Kosoko.
King Kosoko was an Oba of Lagos who reigned from 1845 to 1851. It is said that he was responsible for the economic prosperity of Eko (Lagos Island), Epe, and 'Lekki'.
He was also a strong advocate for slave trade. Apparently, his support for the trade was used as the excuse for the attack on Lagos in 1851, after which he went on exile to Epe. He and his court were permitted to return to Lagos in 1863 by the then governor of Lagos colony, John Hawley Glover. He died in 1872.

No matter how long or short my trip is, I always make time to visit the museums or galleries. This time, I went back to get reacquainted with the #dinosaurs at the @natural_history_museum
As a lover of old buildings, I couldn't ignore the resplendent location of the museum. According to Britannica, this building, which was designed by Alfred Waterhouse, is a perfect example of a 'Victorian Romanesque architecture'. The museum opened to the public at this location in 1881. Talk about keeping a legacy going.
Most of the museums in London are free to visit, although a donation or two would be appreciated. The average waiting time to get into the museum on this visit was about 45 minutes, which isn't so bad. Try to book online ahead of your visit if you don't want to queue.
