✨Venice Travel Update✨

As of Thursday, August 1, groups of more than 25 people will not be allowed in the historic city, according to the Venice municipal website.

In addition, guides are banned from utilizing loudspeakers when leading groups along city streets.

Venice had implemented a tourism tax for those day visitors in 2024 and these measures have been introduced to limit the impact of over-tourism on the Italian city, officials say.

✨NEW TEAM MEMBER ANNOUNCEMENT✨

Erika is a seasoned traveler and a graduate of Algonquin College’s Travel and Tourism program.

She caught the travel bug at a young age and embarked on her first solo journey to South Africa at 19. During her time in Africa, she volunteered at a monkey rehabilitation center and visited Kruger National Park.

Since then, she has traveled extensively throughout Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Her adventure concluded with a road trip down the east coast of Australia.

She has also visited South Korea, Spain, and Japan, and even reached the summit of Mount Fuji.

Her most recent trip to Guatemala and Belize inspired her to help others plan their dream vacations.

Erika has a wealth of first-hand experience in travel and a passion for crafting personalized itineraries and discovering hidden gems. She is dedicated to making your travel dreams a reality and creating unforgettable experiences.

The day is traditionally known as Hunt the Gowk day. This place is unique in that people celebrate April Fools for the first TWO days of April. The first day is celebrated through pranks and hoaxes and on the second day people place tails on each other’s backs.⠀

April Fools’ Day is observed by sneakily sticking a paper fish to someone’s back. When they notice, the prankster yells “Poisson d’Avril!” which means “April fish”! Mostly children participate in this.⠀

This day day is known as the “dia da mentira” or “day of the lie”. They share white lies and false news headlines all in the name of a laugh.⠀

Happy Nowruz to our family, friends, and all who observe!

Nowruz is the name of the Iranian New Year, also known as the Persian New Year, which is celebrated worldwide by Iranians, along with some other nations, as the beginning of the New Year.

Nowruz has been celebrated for over 3,000 years by many groups of people worldwide.

Haft Seen or “Seven S’s” is the traditional table setting of Nowruz. Typically, before the arrival of Nowruz, family members gather around a table, with the Haft Seen set on it, and await the exact moment of the March equinox to celebrate the New Year.

✨Destination Spotlight ✨

January 27- Feb 13,2024

One of the world’s oldest carnivals, it started in the 11th century as a celebration before Lent.

The two-week event now attracts tourists from all over the globe, with dancers, costumes and music lighting up the city.

The Venice Carnival carried on for several centuries until it was outlawed in 1797 while Venice was under the rule of Francis II, the Holy Roman Emperor. Venetians’ use of masks to conceal their identities was also banned at the time.

Occasionally, during the 19th century, the festival came back for brief periods, but it was always practised privately, lacking the huge public displays and festivities it’s known for today!

Jumping ahead to 1979… the Italian government decided to help Venice reconnect with its festival heritage in order to rejuvenate the culture and economy of Venice.
