Life update… just posted to the Big Sur International Marathon group so it’s written for those folks … more info to come. Love you all!
Excited to be here for another race! I just completed 8 months of treatment for an extremely aggressive breast cancer 10 days ago: experimental therapy, chemo, surgery and radiation. My training was hit or miss because my legs felt like cinder blocks during chemo and radiation - and my doctors wouldn’t let me run for one month after my surgery in mid February - but I am here! I have to give myself a pat on the back for showing up and for all of the training I did get in, even the day before one of my last chemo sessions in late January.
Very very thankfully, I was cured by the amazing team of doctors at UCSF. I was given a 30 percent chance of being cured by the time I got to surgery, and I miraculously beat those odds and am cancer free. My doctors said I was a champ (all cancer patients are!) and told me they believed my high level of fitness helped me zoom through treatment and to be cured. So please keep staying active!
I’m here with my little gal who just turned 4 (she was born the day that authorities declared the global pandemic!). She brought her scooter 🛴 to Big Sur so she could, as she says, “zoom” with me to the finish line ❤️❤️❤️ “Walking is fun,” she told me this morning when she and my husband dropped me off.
I’m doing the 21 miler, which I’ve done since 2019. Whether I run, walk or even crawl, I will get across that finish line and holding that medal 🏅 will be such an achievement for me. If you see me crying, know that they are tears of joy!!! Have a great race today everyone ❤️🤗
