The Duke & Scarborough - Our Beautiful Yorkshire Coast The Duke of York is a beautiful Seventeenth Century family run guest house situated in the heart of the Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
(63)

Catering for up to 20 guests within 9 newly refurbished en-suite bedrooms, the Duke of York offers a relaxed and comfortable "home from home" atmosphere. Our 6 front bedrooms, two of which offer spacious balconies, all boast stunning panoramic sea views across the quaint harbour and beautiful South Bay seafront. All bedrooms offer full en-suite facilities, with either a bath or shower, colour TVs

and tea and coffee making facilities as well as hairdryers and mini fridges. All rooms have been newly refurbished in 2010/11 and all, now offer brand new flat screen TV's with built in HD free view channels. Our spacious dining room offers full bay and harbour views, so you can enjoy your quality freshly prepared full English breakfasts whilst watching the fishing boats sail by. Our hearty breakfasts include a starter of a choice of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts and fruit juices, followed by a delicious home cooked full English breakfast consisting of thick back bacon, free range eggs, sausage, tomato, mushrooms and baked beans, all served with tea or coffee and toast. Any special diets or special requests can also be catered for with advanced notice. We understand breakfast is the most important meal of the day and so make it our aim to fill you up until lunch! We are able to offer car parking facilities for up to 6 cars on our private car park located opposite the guest house. This works on a first come first serve basis, and alternative parking, with free permits provided, can be found in the 'Old Town' just a 5 minute walk away. Luggage storage is available for those travelling by bus or train for later departures and we would be happy to pre-order taxi's for those who need transport to the bus/railway stations. Boasting some of the best sea and harbour views in Scarborough, the Duke of York is possibly one of the most conveniently located guest houses in town, overlooking the South Bay seafront. We are literally only a few steps away from the beach and just a 5 minute walk into the heart of the town. Located on one of the oldest roads in Scarborough, Merchant’s Row, this tiny cobbled street is steeped in history and has in fact been the location of various films throughout the past 30 years. These films include ‘Chorus of Dissaproval’ staring Anthony Hopkins, Jeremy Irons and Prunella Scales as well as ‘Dancing Queen’, with Rick Mayall and Helena Bonnam Carter. More recently it was also used in the hit TV drama ‘Brides in The Bath’ with Martin Kemp. Many of the town’s attractions including the Sea Life Centre, Peasholm Park, Miniature Railway and Playzone Adventure Centre are all within walking distance of the guest house, or just a few minutes bus ride away. A selection of literature is available both in the bedrooms and in the entrance of the guest house for your convenience. We look forward to welcoming you to the Duke of York Guest House. Most of our guests are repeat visitors, some of which have been staying with us for 10, 15 and some for almost 30 years. Visit us once and we hope you become a guest and friend for life.

*Please note, our website is currently being designed and will be ready to view shortly. Until that time if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone or email and we will respond to all enquiries within 24 hours.

Hello Duke of York fans and followers,

Just a note to let you know about some changes that are coming to the former ‘Duke of York Guest House’ page. As I am sure you all know by now, we are no longer the proud owners of the Duke of York Guest House. Therefore, I am sorry to say that there will be no more posts from us about the guest house, and of course no option to call/book/check-in/review etc.

I can assure you that the building still stands and continues to be run as a guest house, now named ‘Mariners House’, however as far as I am aware, I don’t think they have set up any social media pages as of yet, but please do keep an eye out, as we would love for you all to continue your visits and support the new owner, and enjoy many a happy holiday in our lovely gem of a town.

I’m also delighted to tell you, that we are going to keep this page running, and instead simply shower you all with delightful posts about the town with lots of lovely pictures of this much loved part of the Yorkshire Coast.

If you wish to un-follow the page, please do so with our blessing, we will totally understand, as of course we did start out life as a page for the guest house. However, as this is no longer the case, we do appreciate that it may not be of interest to some of you anymore and we would hate to spam you with boring pictures of our insane Jack Russell’s frolicking on our stunning local beaches or a rather tasty looking piece of cake in one of our amazing local coffee shops.

If however you are a massive fan of Scarborough and all the amazing things the town has to offer, then please stay with us. In addition to our posts, we would also be happy to act as a bit of an information page about the town and answer any questions you may have, give advice, post your comments/pictures, and just generally help all you Scarborough fans celebrate your experiences, memories, thoughts and comments about the jewel of the Yorkshire Coast.

We love this town and although our new house is a little too small to accommodate you all for your holidays, we still want to help you enjoy them as best you can. So stay with us if you like and help us to celebrate our wonderful home town!

Dear treasured guests......

June 20th 2018 marked the end of an era for us, as we said farewell to a business that has been in our family for almost 40 years.

Throughout those years, we have made some lifelong friends who we consider to be like family and met some truly wonderful, remarkable and beautiful people.

I know I speak on behalf of my father and of course myself when I say it has been our absolute pleasure to look after you and help you to enjoy your holidays throughout the years and we cannot thank you enough for making our days at ‘work’ so enjoyable.

I’d like to say a very big thank you to all of you who have left us such wonderful reviews on Trip Advisor, Facebook and Booking. com etc, and in person to your friends and family. You have helped us to spread the good word and enjoy continued success throughout the years and it means so much to us.

YOU have made the past 39 years so very special and we hope you will support the new owners and continue to enjoy superb holidays at the grand old Duke of York. He will be well loved and will always take care of you, as will the existing staff (who will not be changing).

I myself will be working at the Duke of York until the end of the 2018 season and will then be leaving to enjoy some much needed time with my beautiful baby boy Felix and family.

Keep having happy holidays.

Love to you all always,

The Addis family ###

Ps. Please don’t panic if you have an existing booking with us for this year or for next. Nothing at all is going to change......except perhaps for the smiling face who will greet you, and I’m sure they will be doing an excellent job 🙂

Merry Christmas to all of our lovely guests this year. We hope you have a fantastic holiday season, and wish you all wealth, health and happiness for 2018.

We'll be opening a little earlier this year and will be available for February weekend bookings if you fancy a post Christmas break away by the sea.

In the meantime, we have been a bit rubbish seeking feedback this year, and would be so grateful if you have stayed with us in 2017, if you could leave us a little feedback on Trip Advisor, weather it be good, bad or ugly, it all helps us to improve.

Love to you all. Thank you again for making this year another great one. We hope we've helped you enjoy your well deserved holidays 🎄❤️

Today we said a very sad farewell to two of the most lovely people I know, Ruth and Lawrence.

They have been staying with us here at the Duke of York for over 35 years (I was actually still 'brewing' during their first visit) and as such are our longest standing repeat visitors.

They have become like family to us here over the years, but sadly, with Lawrence turning 90 this year, they can no longer manage all the hills (and steps in the house) and so have reluctantly made this their last visit.

I will miss seeing their faces in June/September every year, but am so pleased they got to meet the newest addition to the house and that Lawrence got one last cuddle with Jebby.

Hope to see you both maybe if you make it through for a day trip. All our love from your family at the Duke ❤️❤️❤️
