Certainly the wildlife, culture and beaches are intoxicating, but what always surprises us is how approachable and friendly Kenyans are. Willing to welcome you as family, their generous smiles and open hearts never cease to amaze us. Regardless of how little they have, they give abundantly.

JUMP!

(Van Halen probably wasn’t thinking we would be referencing their song regarding the Maasai Tribe!)

The Maasai warriors utilize a unique method to use their legs like a pogo stick and hurl their bodies up into the air to demonstrate their strength and maturity.

(Fun fact: Studies suggest that the Maasai often have relatively longer Achilles tendons compared to their body size, which further contributes to their jumping ability!)

Recently, we had an informal competition with one of our travelers attempting to “take the crown” from a Maasai warrior. While the winner of this competition remains a “secret”, the desire to be a body-propelled human rocket remains.

I’ve had the incredible experience of seeing parades of elephants for many years while on safari. And yet, no matter how many times I’ve come face to face with these extraordinary mammals, I find myself humbled and in awe. Their thick, leathery and textured hide reveals the wisdom of decades and the languid swing of their trunk belies the power which it controls.

These creatures remind me of the discretion of nature. What appears gentle and docile, weighs upward of 6000 kg (over 13,000 lbs.) and demonstrates kindness, compassion and alturism.

These aren’t the only reasons to experience the wonder of a safari - but they certainly make a good case.

“I'm not sure that I can fully express how delighted I was to work with Skyler and his team at SKYIN on my recent trip to Kenya and Uganda just last month. Can I just say 10 STAR in every way!!!

I was able to design the perfect trip for me and my best friend and it included everything we wanted to do and see. We were able to do it all within the budget we set and every single interaction with our guides, the lodges and resorts where we stayed, and each excursion was simply wonderful!!

Skyler talked through everything with me and updated me every step of the way. I was really able to "design" my own trip and everything that he recommended was exceptional.

The family dinner in Nairobi was a fabulous evening. We ate home-cooked food, really enjoyed meeting and talking with the family...and danced! The day trip with the Maasai Tribe, the Chief, and his family was something we will always remember. And, I hope to bring more friends and groups to see the beautiful way they live. There were so many wonderful guides, and they have all been trained perfectly and are all part of the SKYIN excellence team.

The week-long safari was amazing. We stayed in a variety of lodges and tented camps and enjoyed every minute. Great people, activities, food, and amazing days of driving to see the many animals.

Our safari driver and guide, Michael, was amazing and funny and had some kind of magic that conjured up every animal we were hoping to see. We added on a trip to walk with the gorillas in Uganda and we loved our lodge and guides.

The SKYIN processes are easy to follow and Skyler Mason, the founder, personally checks in and helps with every step or request you might have. I will work with Skyler every year and can highly recommend him for a memorable trip to really get to know Kenya.
