Finger and Toe Models announces the release of the 15 or 28mm card stock Coastal Battery. Inspired by World War II German batteries in Norway, Coastal Battery features a battleship’s turret atop a concrete base. At seven and a half inches across it’s a relatively large model. The turret rotates. It’s a perfect objective for your commando raids. Things like doors and hatches were left off so you can vary the scale of your operations. If you find rolling the cardstock barrels difficult or the results unsatisfying, two sets of barrels are included on a separate page so they can be printed on easier to roll paper.

Finger and Toe Models announces the release of the 28mm card stock Talos Towers, an affordable set of defensive weaponry textured to match the popular Tango Prime and Slagtown2: City Blocks sets.

It’s not enough to just have powerful, mobile combat forces, a planetary defense force need to be able to defend its assets, whether military strong points or cities. The Talos Towers were produced to answer that need. In the beginning, field officers and civil defense directors simply plopped surplus tank turrets on whatever base they could scrounge. Eventually, they settled on a family of six turrets: the old stand-by tank turrets; both a quad and dual anti-air weapons which could double as anti-personnel; the multi-purpose fire support turret which gave both gun and missile options; a dual barrel rail gun mortar for indirect fire support; and a missile launcher with five options.

Since many planetary governments could not afford specialized support vehicles, Darquil Arms Enterprises, a wholly-owned subsidiary of OPI, purchased Elizabethan Manufactory and began manufacturing low-cost replacement turrets for the T-43 Bear. Simple field-capable switches gave cash-strapped planetary defense forces support vehicles with a wide variety of weapons, including a defense laser that could reach orbit.

Here's a sample set up for Slagtown II: Box City. It gives some idea of the variety of panels and buildings you can create. It also shows both long and short walkways. There's a rampart in there as well. That's about a quarter of a cardboard bankers box full of sample units.

Many planetary defense forces could not afford the supertanks such as the KV-12, Bel’s Kitty popular with the major players’ armed forces and often resorted to improvised, local designs. Then CoryAnne and Wilder Medved showed their Elizabethan Manufactory supervisor plans for an easy to produce and cost-effective tank to support infantry, especially in the claustrophobic battle zones of urban sprawl. The final result, the T-43 Bear battle tank came in multiple versions by a simple turret swap out. By the time management realized the Bear’s name was just the translation of CoryAnne and Wilder’s Russian name, the brochures had already been emailed to customers.

Finger and Toe Models announces release of Sand Covered Church in 28mm.

Based on the real sand covered church outside Skagen, Denmark, the Finger and Toe model includes the now long gone sanctuary roof. During the Little Ice Age, parishioners cut down trees, brush, and scrub in a desperate attempt to keep warm. As a result, the countryside reverted to its natural state of shifting sand dunes which eventually covered all of the church but the bell tower. Once abandoned as a church, it served as a landmark for ships and a watchtower. If you want an unusual watch tower for your forces, the Sand Covered Church is a great choice. It’s easy to assemble (every cut is simply made with scissors), so younger modelers can have a go at it (with some adult supervision).

FWIW: the stock tank western version is an homage to the one college PE class I loved, Outward Bound. On a three day in the New Mexico desert and mountains, one of our teams took a break at a stock tank, stripped, and went in for a dip. This was the 60s. That got the class pulled from the curriculum to "protect our children." As a grown up, I look at the stock tanks and wonder how many billions of germs are lurking.

Finger and Toe Models announces release of the 28mm PDF set Recon Force Alpha.

Across the laager bikers were reclining into their seats, closing the cockpit canopies, logging on to the squadron net. Lt Van Steem hummed to himself as icons representing his team began to turn on. In a moment he blinked at the all-squadron icon, signaling ready status to Dragoon Operations. It was time.

When you need fast, stealthy recon then you need the Mk VII Cheetah armored bike armed with a Gatling and a missile launcher in each of its two wing pods. Unlike contemporary ninja-style bikes, the Cheetah’s driver’s reclines in an armored cockpit like a modern fighter pilot. Everybody knows Bourbon Street, the bars, the dives, the haunted places, but New Orleans in the nineteenth century was very much a working city. Not far from the famous (and infamous) French Quarter was the warehouse district. If the goods came upriver from the Gulf or down river from Westport, they were stored in warehouses built within easy reach of the Big Muddy. Cargo legal and smuggled went through those brick buildings.

The New Orleans Warehouse represents one of those commercial buildings. With a 12"x8" footprint, this is a large model. It is designed so the two parts can be built as a single building or as two standalones.

Dreams of wealth in the Old West weren’t just cattle and cards. A hardy breed of explorers called wildcatters roamed the West looking for promising signs of the new way to get wealthy: oil. If the wildcatter couldn’t strike it rich with oil, well, there was always dry hole money to be scammed from the ranchers around the drilling site. The Ana Verde Oil Well is modeled on a natural gas well in early Aztec, New Mexico. It can be used for any period from the late nineteenth century through the pulp era, from the Old West to the high plateaus of China. It has a three inch by seven inch footprint and stands ten inches high.

All through the American Southwest there are odd towers on mountain and hill tops hinting at some secret activity. Some are the telemetry towers for the various test, proving, missile, and bombing ranges out here. Others are abandoned navigation beacons. Telemetry Tower for Tango Prime and Outpost was inspired by those installations. The tower has the same footprint as the outpost corner units, and is six inches high. The platform on top is removable to be used as a standalone piece. I'm doing the final test build today in between working on the textures for Slagtown II, futzing over the forum spam issues, and waiting for Roto-Rooter to clean out my pipes. (A humungous willow is absolutely beautiful and a joy to sit beneath, but trust me, it has issues)
