🌎 If you want to travel for free (or almost free 😉), but you're not sure where to start, I suggest opening the Chase Sapphire Preferred first.
✨ You need this card in order to transfer points to travel partners on the Chase app.
Right now you get 60k Ultimate Reward points upon meeting the minimum spend.
UR points are very versatile and the most coveted among travel hackers.
Also, I've had a couple of people ask about how they'll keep track of their cards when they don't bank with Chase. It's super easy to add your current bank account info, and you simply transfer payment each month to that Chase card.

☕🎨🥐 Points to Paris! 🥐🎨☕
Paris is definitely a city that is on a lot of people’s lists for a reason! History, espresso, pastries…what’s not to love??
When Sam and I went in 2019, we got a great deal, however we did not use points to get there; but we sure will when we go back!
✨So, let’s talk about how to get there for free!✨
The best hotels using the best flexible points (ahem, Chase UR points) would be #1-Hyatt and #2-IHG. They are labeled in the photos below for reference. You will have to create an account with them to transfer points, but that is super easy and free.
To cover 4 nights at the Hyatt Regency Etoíle(that has a view of the Eiffel Tower btw 😉), you can just use the points gained from the Sapphire Preferred’s welcome offer:
https://www.referyourchasecard.com/19l/H4D6U5O9D4

Or for 30k pts/ngt, you can stay at the gorgeous Hyatt Paris Madeleine.

• For an IHG property, there is the InterContinental Paris - Le Grand for 90k/ngt that offers a spa and views of the amazing Opera House. Usually $445/ngt. Or the InterContinental on Champs Elysées for 69k pts that is usually $427/ngt.
✨Side note: As an IHG card holder, you automatically get the 4th night free every time you book! ❤️
Right now they're offering a 4 nights free bonus with the sign-up of the IHG premier personal card, or if you don't want a card to count towards your 5/24, open the IHG Premier Business card. Both linked here:

Biz: https://www.referyourchasecard.com/210J/MDKTO5L5MN
Personal: https://www.referyourchasecard.com/210J/O8UW0VNVKU

• For flights, it's pretty simple as well. Ultimate Rewards points transfer to many airlines — United, Virgin, and Air France being the most popular to fly directly to Paris from major hubs, such as Chicago or JFK. Get a positioning flight from Nashville to Chicago or JFK first (using Southwest points, of course 😉), before booking direct to Charles de Gaulle airport. What time of year you go and which airline you fly will determine how much tax you pay, but otherwise, you could use points from cards to pay for airfare as well — essentially making this a nearly free trip!

🇫🇷 If you're dreaming of going to Paris, I would love to help get you there! If you need help figuring out how to get those points, or booking with points, message me!❤️

🤙Did you know that using welcome offers from just a few cards would be enough to get a family to HAWAII for less than taking them out to dinner??
It’s true! While spending money on things you normally do anyway.
🌺🌊🌴🏄‍♂️🍍
Chase points—or Ultimate Rewards as they’re called—are the most flexible to use as you can transfer them to Southwest Airlines, United, etc. as well as some awesome Hyatt properties on the islands. Most of these will go for 30-35k/pts/ngt, but there are some for even less if you want to stretch those points.
And if you have Southwest Companion Pass, you spend even less points to get there and back! Plus you get free checked bags.
Right now they are offering a companion pass until February 2025 + 30k points after meeting the minimum spend.
(Check out my recent fb post on the strategy to get 2 Southwest CP + more points)

🌺These cards will get you the most points to play around with as far as flights & hotels:

Chase Sapphire Preferred (needed to transfer points to partners):

Chase Ink Business Unlimited:

Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus and/or Southwest Performance Business
https://www.referyourchasecard.com/226f/VZLGJP4BVO

Again, you’re spending money on groceries and bills anyway…might as well get a free vacation or two out of it!
[If you use my links above I will get referral points if you are approved, so I would appreciate if you use the links!💖]
Happy Travels!

✨ Did you know that some credit cards come with a TSA PreCheck or Global Entry credit?!

— TSA Precheck gets you expedited screening at the airport for domestic flights and allows any dependents under 18 who travel with you to automatically get PreCheck as well.

— Global Entry gives you expedited U.S. customs screening for international travel when entering the US. If you have Global Entry, you also receive TSA PreCheck benefits as part of your membership.

Cards that offer up to $100 credit for TSA PreCheck/Global Entry:

✨Business Cards:

• IHG Business Premier
• Southwest Performance Business
• AmEx Business Platinum
• Bank of America Premium Rewards
• Capital One Spark Miles for Business

✨Personal Cards:

• Chase Sapphire Reserve
• Capital One Venture
• Capital One Venture X
• Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard

If you have kids who are traveling with you, they will need their own Global Entry, which requires each member of the family to get an “interview” at the airport in order to get approved. It’s not as serious as it sounds 😉
✨ Then you all are good for 5 years! ✨

If you’re super new to using points to travel, here are some basic faqs to get you closer to your future free/nearly free adventures!

🔹Open a credit card and meet the minimum spend — The minimum spend is the amount of money you have to spend within a certain amount of time (usually a range of 3-6 months) in order to gain the SUB points (or Sign-Up Bonus). For example, the Chase Sapphire Preferred has a SUB of 60,000 points once you spend $4,000 in 3 months. When you add up expenses such as groceries, various bills, gas, kids’ extracurricular activities, etc., it’s pretty easy to meet that minimum spend! Instead of using your debit card or cash, put everything on the credit card, and pay it off each month.
In exchange, those points are worth $750 if you cashed them outright. (But we’re not going to do that as we’re going to use them for free travel and make that dollar worth so much more!)

🔹Once you have the points, consider where and how you want to use them. You could even do this in order to decide which card to open. There are four major banks that transfer to airline and hotel partners: Chase, AmEx, Capital One and Citi. A lot of these are a 1:1 ratio and transfer within same day. Transferring points to partners usually gives you a better redemption than using that bank’s portal to book a hotel or flight. However, I’ve booked two car rentals on Chase’s portal so far and felt it was a pretty good redemption.
You will need to create separate accounts with those partners in order to transfer points to that account.

🔹When you get within a couple hundred dollars of meeting your SUB, go ahead and be ready to apply for another card.

🔹Do NOT cancel a card unless you’ve had it for a year or more. If you’re paying a yearly fee, you can wait until the yearly fee posts, then call to downgrade (best option) or cancel the card, and they will refund the fee back to you.
When Sam and I both got the Chase Sapphire, there was no need for us to pay two $95 annual fees, so I downgraded to the Chase Freedom card which has no annual fee.

🔹Do NOT add your spouse as an authorized user, as that takes one of their Chase 5/24 spots if you do this. If you need a card for each of you, call Chase or send a secure message on your Chase account to ask them to expedite a card so you can start using it sooner rather than later. It will usually show up within 2-3 business days.

🔹How do you keep up with all of the cards?? Use the free app Travel Freely. It keeps track of all of your credit cards and will notify you when you have a yearly fee coming up. The best part is you don’t have to enter any personal card information.
https://my.travelfreely.com/share?ref=54678

🔹What about my credit score?
Here’s a breakdown of what affects your credit score so you can have a bit more piece of mind:

1.) Payment History — 35% — Paying on time and full each month is key👌
2.) Credit Usage — 30% — How much credit you’re using.
3.) Credit History — 15% — Don’t close your oldest accounts!
4.) Account Diversity — 10% — How are you using your credit - Loans, CCs, etc.
5.) Account Inquiries — 10% — Applying for cards

So you see, inquiries only take a small hit to your score before it will go back up after a short while. This is exactly what has happened to Sam and I.

Let's talk about the Chase 5/24 rule ✨

Chase bank has an unspoken rule about how many cards they will approve you for within a 24 month time frame.
So, if in the last 24 months you've been approved for 5 cards, Chase won't approve you until that time passes.

Business cards, however, do NOT count towards this, because opening a business card does not ping on your personal credit score, so those are free game.

For example, if you have already opened a Chase Sapphire Preferred, a Southwest personal card, IHG personal card, and an Alaska Airlines personal card, then you are at 4/24, so best to concentrate on opening business cards unless you have another personal card you absolutely want to take that last spot. After that, concentrate on opening business cards until you're under 5/24.
That also means if you've had a card for years, that won't count at all towards this rule.

Chase is our favorite bank to get cards from, because the welcome offers are usually very good, and the points (called Ultimate Rewards or UR) are very versatile!

Go get you some Chase points! 👊🏻✈️🏨

The Southwest Companion Pass has to be the most coveted travel hack for airfare out there!

In order to achieve this the “regular” way, you have to fly 100 times, or earn 135,000 points in one calendar year.
There is NO WAY we can fly 100 times OR earn the 135,000 points in order to get the pass!

BUT there is a way to get the pass without doing either of those things. Well, you do need to earn the 135,000 points, but there’s an easier way to do it.

All you need is to open two cards: a personal and a business Southwest credit card.
The business will give you 80,000 points upon completing the minimum spend, and the personal card gives you 50,000 points upon completing the minimum spend (or SUB).
(Chase doesn’t allow you to have more than one personal Southwest card)

These points added together in your account, plus the points you get from spending on the card to meet the SUB, will get over 135,000 points, which is enough for the companion pass. Plus, Southwest gives you an additional 10,000 points towards the companion pass.

I opened this one (business):
https://www.referyourchasecard.com/226d/2APTM4YP5S

and this one (personal):
https://www.referyourchasecard.com/226d/712SKA8OYX

If you and your spouse want to do this method, you both can get the companion pass, allowing two of your kids to fly free until December 2025!
Once you open a card, refer your spouse, and you’ll get additional points just for referring them if they get approved. Pretty sweet deal!

It really is a valuable asset to anyone’s travel journey. Good luck!

Message me if you have any questions 🙂

At the beginning of spring last year (2023), I opened an Alaska Airlines Visa credit card, which had a 60,000 point bonus at the time of sign-up. It also included a companion fare, but this isn’t as good as the Southwest Airlines Companion Pass, as the Alaska one can only be used once, and you cannot use it combined with points like Southwest lets you.
So we didn’t end up using it.

• Flights: I used 15,000 miles + $5.60 each to fly my husband and I one-way from Nashville to Seattle. I booked our flights coming back home through the Chase portal which cost 35,112 points/pp. Total round-trip would have cost us $1,209.00.
• 1st Hotel: 22,562 Chase points, booked through the bank portal ($282.03/ngt)
• 2nd Hotel: 34,000 IHG points from a card we opened in May 2023 ($452.12 total for 2 ngts) This had an awesome free bfast buffet!
• Car rental: 13,462 Chase points for Thurs-Sun, booked through the portal ($168.28)

— Breakdown:
• 30,000 total Alaska Airlines points
• 34,000 IHG points
• 106,248 Chase points

✨Trip Total Cash Value: $2,111.43 ✨

We wouldn’t have spent the extra money to go on a trip like this, especially just the two of us, but we had the opportunity because of points! 🤩

✨We NEVER spend more than our usual monthly amount just to get points!
That is never a sustainable strategy. This hobby should not put you in debt.

There's a saying about learning to snowboard and ski.
"Snowboarding is easy to learn but harder to get good at. Skiing is hard to learn at first, but once you're good at it, you're good."

It's the same with travel hacking.
It can be seemingly overwhelming and hard to learn at first, but once you get it, you get it!

This time last year I opened an INK Business Cash card and then an IHG in March (both by Chase bank).
By mid-March, we had enough points to book two hotel rooms for 4 nights for $0, and transferred 89,000 Chase points to Southwest so 8 of us could fly round-trip to Orlando for only $89 ($11.20 for taxes and fees/pp)!
That was before we opened our own Southwest cards in order to get oodles of points plus two companion passes — one for two of our daughters to fly free until December 2025.
You also don’t have to trade in your Southwest points in order to get the companion pass — only have to earn the points to qualify for the pass.

This vacation would have cost over $3,000, but instead only cost $89.00 for airfare and lodging.
Food and activities we paid with another credit card that we had been working on meeting the minimum spend on ;)

What a steal! We would have never spent that much on a family vacation, because flying all 8 of us alone would have cost a ton!

• Ink Business Cash - Says it will give you $750 cash after achieving the minimum spend, but they give it to you as 75,000 points, which is worth much more in travel.

https://www.referyourchasecard.com/21p/VJXKK4EPCO

• IHG Premier - 140,000 points that you can use at any IHG brand hotel, including all0-inclusive Iberostar brand hotels.😍

You’ll need this one in order to transfer points to partners, which you could then use as if you earned those partner points by flying that airline/staying at that hotel.
It does have a $95 annual fee, but it’s as if you’re giving someone $95, and they’re handing you back hundreds in value.

For example, you can get:
• 4 nights at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota, FL. ($229/avg/ngt)
• 3 nights at Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa, FL. ($380/avg/ngt)
• 5 nights at Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay ($200/avg/ngt)
OR
• 3 nights at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines, TX ($400/avg/ngt) to name a few.
So you see how you can get tons of value from only one card you use to buy everyday purchases anyway!

You could also use it for a one-way business class flight to Europe. There are so many options.

Chase points are the most flexible in the travel hacking world. They transfer to 11 airline partners (Iberia, Southwest, United, FlyingBlue, etc.) and 3 hotels: Hyatt, IHG, and Marriott.

18/01/2024

Have any of these misconceptions about opening credit cards to gain points ran through your mind before? It's easy to do as we live in Dave Ramsey country 😆
And it is wise to be cautious and be conscious of your budget.
However, if you're going to spend money on gas, bills, groceries, etc. anyway, might as well get points for free travel in the process, right?!

When I first heard about this strategy, it sounded like a very complicated process that involved spending way more money than I needed in order to gain points.
Or it was an MLM that YouTube and Instagram influencers were promoting to gain followers or money.

But it is none of those things! I can tell you from first-hand experience it is a very fun hobby that has already taken my family on a couple of trips when we could have paid thousands!

• I opened 6 cards in 2023, and my husband opened 5, and both of our credit scores did NOT suffer. They’re still about 800. Your credit score does take a dip when you apply for a new card, but it does go back up after awhile.

• Different cards have different spending amounts to meet the SUB (Sign-up Bonus). There’s a card out there for anyone who’s looking to use points for travel.

• It does take some time to get used to the lingo and rules of opening cards, but once you learn it, it’s really quite easy.
And SO worth it! ❤️

• Once you open a card and you meet the SUB, then you open another, and so on. You won’t be able to travel that much without opening multiple cards. That may not be possible for some, which is totally understandable. Start slow, and work your way up!
