"Watawieh and welcome" to an island where our doors are rarely locked and our hearts are always open; a place where wandering cows have right of way, 🐮 and everyone has time to stop and chat. Many visitors say that a holiday on is like stepping back in time. ☀ We prefer to say it’s like stepping into a better time. 🌲

A few weeks ago three of the members of the Canberra-based Parks Australia science team came out to visit and assist 👐 with Daniel Gautschi's PhD field work studying the green parrot 🦜.

They had an opportunity to get up close and personal with our special little creatures, including this chick (pictured in the capable hands of 🤠 Chief Ranger Joel Christian) which successfully fledged from one of the several artificial nest sites in the park.

It's always exciting 🤩 to show our colleagues from the mainland the fruits of our hard labour to protect and nurture our endemic and endangered species 🦜!

MEDIA RELEASE
From 6pm tomorrow, Friday 4 March 2022, the following restrictions will change:
• The requirement for customer/visitor registration at commercial premises is removed
• The density limits permitted inside commercial premises is removed
• The requirement to wear a facial mask when indoors at most locations has been removed, this includes inside workplaces, bars, cafes, restaurants, and retail outlets.
• The limit of 150 people or less at gatherings is removed.
The above changes will bring Norfolk Islands management of COVID closer to alignment with Queensland and other states and territories.
The following restrictions will remain in place:
• The requirement to obtain an Entry Permit when travelling to the island and having either a negative PCR test within 72 hours of arrival or a negative RAT within 48 hours of arrival and a further negative RAT in the 24 hours after arrival.
• The requirement to wear a facial mask at the NIHRACS Facility, Residential Aged Care, Disability Accommodation, airport, planes and on public transport (such as tourist buses).
Information about the requirements for travel to Norfolk Island is available on the Council’s website at link http://www.norfolkisland.gov.nf/covid-19-advice-norfolk-island. All travel related enquiries are to be directed to the Incident Controller. Key points of contact are detailed at the end of this media release.
Whilst the EMT has lifted some mandated requirements related to the management of COVID on the island, members of the community are encouraged to take personal responsibility for their health. COVID remains a potentially serious disease with poor outcomes for some people. As an individual and/or business owner you are free to make your own decisions regarding facial mask and hygiene requirements for entrance to your premises. If you are immune system compromised, unvaccinated or considered high risk, your personal safety plan should take precedence. For example, if you feel more comfortable wearing a facial mask in public spaces, you are free to do so; however, this will no longer be a mandated requirement for the community.

Travel to Norfolk Island
Information about the conditions of travelling to Norfolk Island is available on Councils website at link http://www.norfolkisland.gov.nf/covid-19-advice-norfolk-island. All travel related enquiries should be directed to the Incident Controller.

Travel to the mainland for medical
If you need to travel for medical treatment but are hesitant due to the ongoing presence and transmission of COVID on the mainland, NIHRACS have advised that you should seek a consultation with a GP. They will be able to review the necessity of the proposed travel.

RAT tests
There are now a number of businesses on the island that have Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) for sale. This includes Christian Bailey Agencies, Paw Paws Pumpshed, the Visitors Information Centre and Liquor Bond.
If you are doing a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) at home, it is important that you follow the testing instructions carefully to ensure that you receive an accurate result. Testing kits can vary significantly between brands.
If you test positive for COVID, it is mandatory that you report this to the NIHRACS, phone 22091. It is also important that you inform them of the type of RAT that you have used.

Medical Exemptions for Facial Masks
Current COVID restrictions require staff and patrons of businesses to wear a mask when they are indoors. If you believe that you have a genuine reason for being granted a medical exemption from this requirement, contact NIHRACS to arrange a GP consultation. Medical exemptions must be issued locally. Documents issued elsewhere are not considered a certified exemption for the jurisdiction of Norfolk Island.
