La Païva 🤩

This incredible second empire mansion on the Champs Élysées is almost hidden from the street and is one of the only mansions left on the avenue. Built with the money from her third husband the courtesan turned countess, La Païva hosted many of society’s most influential people including Delacroix, Zola, and Flaubert. The Hôtel particulier has some of the most ostentatious decor imaginable, including this staircase carved from a single piece of yellow onyx and a bathtub (not pictured) with a third tap for champagne. It’s now a private club and not open to the public except for with special friends who are kind enough to extend an invitation for a drink (not in the bathtub) 🥂 🍾

RIP Marc Bohan 💐

Dior has been creating haute couture for 75 years now, 30 of which were designed by couturier, Marc Bohan. He understood Christian Dior’s vision for the brand as he also came up in HC ateliers, namely, Robert Piguet, and Jean Patou. Due to his desire for privacy ( like Dior himself) he is the one you’re probably least likely to know. He developed a direct line to Hollywood and dressed many celebrities including Elizabeth Taylor, and his long-time friend, Grace Kelly. His era was sandwiched between Yves Saint Laurent and Gianfranco Ferre and encompassed the entire 1960s, 70s, and 80s which is a huge part of fashion history.

I was really pleased to discover a room dedicated to him on this last visit in May to the ; swipe to the end to see his work on display.

🎉 Happy Birthday, Yves Saint Laurent! 🎂✨

Born in Algeria he was designing dresses for his paper dolls at the age of 14, won the Woolmark prize at age 18, took over from Christian Dior at 21, and opened his own house when he was just 26. He went on to create a wealth of iconic collections and pieces that still reverberate in the halls of contemporary fashion.

Here are three of his most iconic creations to tide us over until the tour this October!

1. Le Smoking Tuxedo (1966): A groundbreaking and revolutionary design that challenged conventional norms, the concept of the women's tuxedo became a favourite of celebs like Liza Minnelli, Françoise Hardy and Bianca Jagger.

2. Mondrian Collection (1965): A masterful fusion of art and fashion, Yves Saint Laurent's iconic Mondrian dresses took inspiration from Piet Mondrian's abstract compositions, and was the first of many collections inspired by artists like Claude Lalanne, Picasso, Georges Braque and Tom Wesselmann.

3. The Trench Coat (1962): Yves Saint Laurent elevated the classic utilitarian trench coat to new heights of sophistication and elegance. His reimagined version featured sharp tailoring, a cinched waist, luxurious haute couture fabrics, and was featured in the film, Belle de Jour, starring Catherine Deneuve.

He worked until 2002 when he and his partner Pierre Berger created the foundation that houses the , and he died when he was just 71.

Have you even been to the Promenade Plantée?🍃🌹🌳

Built in 1993 on an old railway line, it was not especially popular among Parisians. Much like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre pyramid it’s now a cherished space to enjoy a walk. With interesting views and beautiful plantings, it became the blueprint for other reclamations like the High Line in NYC. Beneath the coulée vert as is also known are many shops under the arches supporting the line featuring many unique artisans and craftspeople.

LV Dreams! 💭👜🧳

This exhibition in the Louis Vuitton headquarters was both fun and educational. So many great archival pieces mixed with one-of -a-kind bespoke items that have always been the foundation of the brand. It was a really engaging space to explore the long history of LV and you’ll get to visit it with me on my next Paris fashion experience!

A magical last day was spent with the group at the legendary ! 🤩

Every inch of this Galerie is a dream and I’m so glad we were able to get the group in on the last day of the tour on the museum’s fist day back after their latest rotation! I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect way to end our time together than this fabulous experience!

A beautiful day with a privileged visit to to see their beautiful historic salons at the Place Vendome! 👸🏻💎👑

The history of fashion begins at the Place Vendome where Charles Worth began as the first couturier and its since become the most prestigious location for the craftsmanship of Haute Joaillerie. Maison Chaumet was the first jeweller to open on the place and it was amazing to be able to see some of the treasures from their archives. Such a perfect day for the Marais! 🌞

Located right next to the hotel, the Marais has everything! We began at the atelier of the incredible .creation to learn the secrets of weaving specialty fabrics for brands like Dior, Gaultier, and Schiaparelli. Then we headed to two of my favourite French concept stores before lunch and the incredible where they now have his atelier on display.

A rainy day in Montmartre! ☔️

Despite the weather it was a sweet day in one of the cutest areas of town. We began at the beautiful Parisian cemetery in the neighbourhood, then walked to the basilica Sacre Coeur, around the neighbourhood, and finally over to the garment district to visit my fave shop and the massive fabric shops around. All in all a really fun day exploring!

Day 3 was a beautiful day at the flea market! Check my highlights for more!

While the other activities on the tour often change based on availability, we always go to the flea market. This is not only the biggest flea market in Europe, but also where the term originated with the rag and bone men who sold their wares in this exact spot.

It was a day for the Tour Eiffel! 😍

It was a busy day at the tower but was a lovely day despite the rain warnings. The last time I went up was probably 2016 so it was interesting to see how much has changed. The one thing that never changes though is the view! I took enough photos to tide me over for another 7 years 📸

One of the days on the tour is a street market shop for a picnic with a view of the tower! I always leave some time for the guests that want to go up. Book those tickets early though or you will have to buy a ticket to walk up the 674 stairs to the 2nd floor! 😬

Did you know Paris has two garment districts?

In Montmartre you’ll find the shops that are open to the public including a couple of 5 story building full of materials. The one in the Sentier area is more for wholesalers but they’ve been known to open their doors to regular folk who know how to ask!

Save this location for your next trip to Paris!

This sculpture, titled “Tulips”, was a gift to the city of Paris from the artist Jeff Koons as a memorial to the terror attacks in 2015. Some Parisians scoffed at the “gift”, as it came with a hefty price tag for installation, so money was raised by private donors to realize the funds needed. The location was another point of contention as the spot Koons had specified for it at the Palais de Tokyo was seen as opportunistic by some. As it turned out the plaza concrete wasn’t strong enough to support the sculpture and in 2019 it was finally unveiled in the garden of the Petit Palais near the American Embassy.

Yves was the youngest couturier when he took over the house of Dior at 21 and started his own house in the early 60s. Each year the museum offers a new retrospective of his work, this one being shapes and forms. Hi! I’m still in Paris! It’s been a struggle to post these days but I’m sort of getting back into it. I will definitely post some stuff from the recent trip but I’m also trying to be present and enjoy my time here. Come see a fashion exhibition with me! ⚜️ This was such a fun experience and I’m glad I reserved a spot. It’s on all weekend if you’re in town so see if you can get in! I was at the first scheduled appointment and knowing a lot about Dior and how they like to organize their exhibitions I tend to skip the first couple of rooms where all the first people tend to congregate. I ended up being the only person upstairs with the clothing and it was really nice to have some time alone in there to video! The theme was obviously white and gold and it really was a treat to see the wall of miniatures in some new colour ways! And sorry I sound so breathy but the pollution is bad today and my lungs are feeling it! 😮‍💨 Croissant count is only at three so far! Who can’t wait to go back to Paris? 🙋🏻‍♀️ I’m taking a page from the book of Parisians who all take their vacations in the month of August and enjoy my time off! If you’re one of the crazy people who travel to Paris in August, make sure you’re prepared for any type of weather (ok not snow but it’s been raining for a week!), actually phone to see if your favourite places are open (as I said they like to leave this month!) and if you’re looking for air conditioning hit up a movie theatre or a grocery store (many French people think AC makes you sick 🤷🏻‍♀️). I’ll be posting here every day this month as I’m doing the “post every day Challenge” by my pal @chanrythach so lmk if there’s any topics you’d like me to cover! The newest fashion museum in Paris, @galeriedior, is on the agenda for Day 4 of this incredible week, October 7-14 🗓✈️🥂 Built right around the corner from the original Christian Dior store, the Galerie Dior uses the same themes as the enormous spectacle that was mounted at the Musée des arts Décoratifs in 2017 with “Dior, Couturier of Dreams”. That show broke all records for ANY show in the museum’s history and was exhibited internationally to great acclaim. One of my favourite parts is the colour grids of objects; tiny couture gowns, straw hats, handbags shoes and more. I might never get out of this stairwell! I’m so excited to show you my view on Paris! I’ve planned a very special week with some of the most beautiful museums, major monuments, artisan workshops, including as much as possible for this great price. Ready to travel safely? 🥂🐘✈️ Although I haven’t travelled to Paris for two years I am ready with the proper plans and precautions in place! It’s important to note that only fully vaccinated people can travel to France, so guests on my Fashion Experience Tours will need to be fully vaxxed as well.👏🏻🥳 💉Vaccination cards are required to go inside any cultural centre, museum, shops, even restaurant terraces, with masks required indoors. This is mostly an outdoor walking tour with either some quick masked travel by metro or by private car. Breakfast can be eaten in your room or in the dining room (if your comfortable), lunches will be outside whenever possible, and our hotel will be fully covid compliant. I am happy to assist in getting any PCR tests required as well as converting your country’s pass into a French QR code (its super easy). I advise flying direct if possible to avoid more time in airports and I will have N95s available for you! I care deeply about your safety and the safety of my Paris partners, guides, and creators and you can always ask me your Covid questions ❤️ I hope this helps!
