Two birds with one stone...

Charles and Melissa from Louisiana came for a week's birding around northeast Spain and absolutely loved it!

Barcelona, the culture, the birds, the scenery, the roads, the hotels, and of course the food.

By chance we stopped for a bite to eat at Punt Estrella in Huesca and there on the table was yet another top - Degustus extra virgin olive oil from the cooperative of La Granadella in the Garrigues. Only the best for our clients!

Available now for purchase. A Common Seal close-up of head only. Very cute, looking sidelong at the viewer. - Young seal

Images of the Northern Lights taken on our Northern Lights cruise from Reykjavik on Friday night. Success!

However, it took some waiting for. We arrived on Monday morning and for four nights we had no luck with the lights - birds are another story - despite Caroline's keen vigils lasting until 3 am in the morning.

Goodbye Reykjavik, goodbye Iceland. A beautiful if cool, sunny day accompanies us on our last day in Iceland.

We think it's been a good tour, because if our clients go home happy then, what else? 61 species of bird including vagrant Lesser Yellowlegs and Baird's Sandpiper, and those Ptarmigan! 6 beautiful Ptarmigan in the middle of the pine wood is just unforgettable.

Geese, wildfowl, seabirds ... Gyrfalcon? Maybe next year ...

Our last day in Iceland has arrived. The birding goes on until the end, but we find time to visit hot springs such as this one on the Reykjanes peninsula. Spectacular!

Yesterday we had a pleasant 9°C, sun, and a surprise Baird's Sandpiper! Also Common Crossbill, Redpoll, Goldcrest, Northern Wheatear, Scaup and more.

The Northern Lights from Reykjavik, yesterday. We had a great show of lights on the northern lights cruise, which started just as we were pulling out of Reykjavik.

The photo, well, me and my old phone couldn't do them justice, but you get the idea.

Today is the last full day of our northern lights and birds in Iceland tour, and we're pleased with the results. We've seen most of the interesting birds against a backdrop of the jaw-dropping Iceland scenery, we've enjoyed good food and hotels, and each other's company.

Hoping for something else a little special before we return home tomorrow.

Today we spent a windy day on the stunning Snaefellness Peninsula, mostly looking for Harlequin Duck offshore. No luck there, but we saw flocks of Purple Sandpipers, scores of Common Eider, handfuls of Black Guillemots and more Glaucous and Iceland Gulls than you could imagine.

On the way back we walked through a little pinewood and were amazed to find six beautiful Rock Ptarmigan just resting in the middle of the wood! We were only 20 metres from them when we saw them, so we stood still, watched, and then backed off, leaving them there.

Day 3 of our autumn Iceland tour, and we're getting some good new birds, including Pink-footed Goose, Brent Goose, Manx Shearwater, Purple Sandpiper and the lovely Long-tailed Duck.

Light rain and drizzle for most of the day hasn't stopped us yet, and the forecast is improving from tomorrow afternoon. We're crossing our fingers for a look at the Northern Lights. Wish us luck!

Skogafoss waterfall is still my favourite Icelandic waterfall. In my opinion it's the most photogenic, despite the limitations that Instagram imposes on the photo dimensions.

Today the weather wasn't as bright as yesterday, but we still managed to do everything we set out to do and without getting wet or cold.

Birds of note include our first Harkequin Duck of the trip, Common Scoter, Common Eider, Red-throated Diver, Iceland and Glaucous Gulls and more. Cool!

Enjoying calm and sunny conditions on the first day of our autumn Iceland tour. We know it won't last, so that makes it even better!

Great Northern Diver, Greater White-fronted Goose flocks and Barrow's Goldeneye were the day's bird highlights.

Geysir and Gullfoss as stunning as ever, a good evening meal, and hoping for the Northern lights ( which didn't show).

Best!
