Stratford-upon-Avon Canal's final lock links to the Avon so it linked the industrial Midlands to the south west coast from 1816. Always fun watching boats come through!

Not the Cotswolds, so way off my patch. But definitely 'Offbeat': these carvings adorn the outside of St Stephen's cathedral in Vienna. What do they represent? Well, they indicate which side men and women should sit, as they were expected to worship separately... Shout if you’ve seen anything similar on a British church.

Visit Minster Lovell Hall and travel back to the 1450s. This atmospheric site gives such a sense of grand medieval life. Always a highlight on my tours.

All Souls College in Oxford, completed by Nicholas Hawksmoor in 1734. The college was already nearly 300 years old by then. Looks pretty good nearly 300 years later. There are great stories about this college - DM for a top tour.

Why is this elephant on an Oxford roof? Because it decorates what was once the Indian Institute, where from 1884 Oxford students learned about India ahead of going out to... well, pretty much rule it as part of our Empire.
