Follow up: THANKS to your support on y-o-u-t-u-b-e (FB really hates that word), today I've finally snatched the yomadic name from the so-called "Yomadic Mamas", so, thanks! Coming VERY soon: a new video showing a side of Kyiv that tourists don't see (despite it being an area that's home to most of the population here). In the meantime, here's a bunch of subway/metro photos from the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Dnipro, taken during a recent road trip....
CHEERS!

PEOPLE OF FACEBOOK!
Hi, hope you're well today wherever you are on this planet. Today, I REALLY need your help. So... I've finally decided to make videos. Below is my effort from yesterday - an abandoned 32-level Soviet Modernist Hotel from the Ukrainian city of Dnipro - filmed just a few days ago on a Ukrainian road-trip. However, over on Y-O-U-T-U-B-E there are now multiple "Yomadic" accounts - they're all trying to steal my identity. To solve this, I just need 100 subscribers on YT to be able to stake my claim. I'd *really* appreciate if you could subscribe to the YOMADIC channel on YT (I won't put a link here, as FB really hates driving traffic to their video nemesis). In any case, enjoy the video, and I hope you have a great day. (btw, for much of the world travel is *slowly* returning to normal, but for those in lockdown, keep in mind nothing lasts forever)

Cheers! Nate

Last week, I was the only tourist in Chernobyl. All my life I've wanted to drive myself around an abandoned radioactive city in the middle of a contaminated wasteland... and what happened next, is not surprising at all. Read on below:

A self-drive Chernobyl tour, during the pandemic, with zero other tourists. I've been waiting my whole life for this.

Hello, people of Facebook! Here is an update. I'm not a fan of Facebook. However, people do check in here for "social proof" that Yomadic is real. Yes, I'm real, and YOMADIC TOURS continue to be really the best - through Iran, Ukraine, Tunisia, and more. I do hope you can join us (btw, we’ve now run over thirty tours - we even provide tours to other organisations, but, we keep that a secret).

Yomadic continues on, stronger and stronger - and even though I may post the occasional Facebook update in the future, I just wanted people to know that Facebook is not a regular space for me, or Yomadic.

If you need to know more information, or contact me, the Yomadic website makes it easy.

So, please feel free to check out the Yomadic website (sign up on the email list, it's the best way to stay in touch) or find me on Instagram and Twitter. I update regularly over there, with personal updates, perma-travel updates from random places, and information about new Yomadic tours.

Cheers, and hope to see you in real life one of these days...

Good morning people of Facebook! New post today - here's an abandoned Frank Lloyd Wright palace, for lovers of brutalist, mid-century-modern, abandoned architecture. There's at least a few of us out there, right? Hello from Shiraz, Iran, have a great day wherever you are.

You, me, Iran, 2019. YOMADIC 2019 Iran "Untours" are almost sold out - there are only two purposefully limited tours available for all of next year. Hope you can join us. Share this post with someone you love (or like even just a little bit), and maybe they'll buy you a ticket (and, don't forget to bring your camera). See you in Iran, in 2019... https://yomadic.com/iran-tour/

Yomadic Iran tours are for people who love the spirit of independent travel, and the camaraderie of a small group of travelling friends, but really wouldn't enjoy a typical corporate group tour. Our 2019 "Untours" are on sale now...

NEW: Minsk, Belarus - mysterious, surreal, a strange post-Soviet city, where everyone lives inside a hellish collective nightmare and you just can’t seem to awaken them. I just spent five days in Minsk, and this is what it looks like... also, HELLO PEOPLE OF FACEBOOK, hope you're having a great day.

Minsk is mysterious, strange and surreal, a post-Soviet city, where everyone lives inside a hellish collective nightmare and you can't seem to awaken them.

I just spent three months straight in Iran. People still ask me "isn't it dangerous?", and those people need to learn to use Google, because it's 2018, the truth is easy to learn. I've read that women aren't seen in public in Iran, aren't allowed to drive or even ride bicycles, and may only wear black sheets. Here's a photo of some girls, in public, on bicycles, not wearing black sheets, just chillin', in Iran. This country is the most normal country I've visited in my entire life, and I'll be back again soon. This week: Shiraz - Dubai - Ashgabat - Minsk - Kiev

GREETINGS FROM SHIRAZ, PEOPLE OF EARTH. How are you? I hope you're at work, because, I've got the perfect way for you to waste some quality time on the bosses dime. Sometimes, you really don't want to tell the world about a hidden oasis village in the middle of an Iranian desert two-thousand-meters above sea level. Then again...

Once upon a time, getting to this secretive Iranian village was really difficult. And one day, I’m going to regret ever mentioning the village named "Dashtak".

HELLO PEOPLE OF FACEBOOK! Happy Easter from Tehran, Iran. I've got a present for you - a new post today filled with pretty pictures and fun adventures... check it out below (and to support a totally independent website just trying to make it in this cold hard world, please share - that's What Jesus Would Do, well, that and Jesus would end the Fed').
Cheers!

Hello people of Facebook! It's time for a new article, from me, all about travelling FAST through the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe (also, if you would like to come to Iran on April 2nd 2018, contact me - sadly, due to a cancellation I can offer two seats on the always-sold-out Yomadic Iran Untour's with a *very* large discount) (send me a message)
Cheers!

Iran is safer than Disneyland. New post today, from a "new" part of Iran. BTW, leaving Iran today after two-and-a-half-months, will be in Beirut for dinner. PS, I'm visiting seven countries on three continents this week, four I've never been to before, and then I'm sleeping for three months.

Touring through Iran is not like visiting Disneyland, but it's definitely safer.

Hello to people still following the infrequently updated Yomadic page. Along with Phillipa, I've just completed five tours of Iran, and I've been here for two months so far. This photo is of downtown Tehran, at night. Yes, I'm still travelling, full-time, this is day number one-thousand-nine-hundred-and-forty-two of living out of my backpack and being on the road. In general, I can very much recommend the real world - it's really great, five stars for sure. Have a nice day, thanks for reading.

Hey Facebook peeps, it's Wednesday. Named after the God of Odin, but, more universally known by workers as the worst day of the week. But, now you can waste some quality time on the bosses-dime! Workers of the world unite! Stick-it to the man! Conveniently, here's the perfect distraction for you - I recently travelled on a strange erotic journey from Skopje to Minsk, capital city of unknown Belarus. And this is what I found out...
Cheers, and don't worry, tomorrow is Thursday. Nate.

Strangely, Minsk remains unchartered and unknown to most tourists - despite Belarus officially being awarded "Drunkest Country in the World, recording the highest alcohol consumption per-capita of any nation in our known universe.

Hey there Facebook people... new post today, and I'm offering 400 EUR discount on the just-launched FINAL Yomadic Iran Untour for 2017 (and, a 400 EUR discount on the most incredible Eastern European tour through Ukraine, Transnistria, and Moldova). The discounts are for a very limited time, a much shorter time than it will take you to read this:

Hey there Facebook friends and strangers who are just friends I haven't met yet! So, it's all happening now. I've just arrived in IRAN. I received a new camera today, as my Fuji died at Chernobyl (just a co-incidence, it was officially declared radiation-free). And, I've written an article about the ridiculous mansion of the former Ukrainian president who was chased out of the country and is now hanging out in Russia. Since I know Petro, so I got to see inside. Who's Petro? You won't believe it... BTW, our THIRD Ukrainian Pop-Up Tour, taking place in July, has just been released. Details in the article... hope you can join us. Cheers! Nate. http://yomadic.com/president-mansion-ukraine/

Is there really a solid-gold toilet inside the former president's mansion near Kyiv, Ukraine? And, do you really need to know a guy called "Petro" to get inside? Update: maybe.

WHEN WILL YOMADIC WRITE A NEW ARTICLE AND PUT SOMETHING ON FACEBOOK? Well, a new article is now live, and it's bleak. As for Facebook, I'm spending more time on Instagram these days, updating my journey almost daily. Either way, have a great day wherever you are (I'm currently in Kiev, Ukraine), check out the article, and share it with somebody bleak in your life. Yes, that's a photo of a feral fox living in a radioactive wasteland. We called him "Simon", and fed him cookies.

Mostly, the people that care about this sort of thing are living in dank basements, listening to Sisters of Mercy, polishing semi-automatic weapons, stock-piling Soylent Green and preparing for the impending Judgment Day...

"I WILL BURN YOUR COUNTRY TO THE GROUND - IRAN TOUR REPORT", is the title of a new post I added to YOMADIC today. Yep. Well, well, well. Look who came crawling back to Facebook. I know, it's been two months since I posted here on the venerable Yomadic page, because really, I've just spent around seven weeks-straight touring around Iran, and I wanted to avoid all the ridiculous politics that Facebook has been drowning in, as much as possible. Divisions between friends and families over Facebook opinions are not cool, so click like to that if you agree, or, just click like to help out an independent blogger, trying his best to provide you with a few minutes of sublime time-wasting. Or, don't click like at all, your choice. Either way, I respect you, you're awesome, but if you want to kill some time, this is a great way to do it...

I'm heading back to Iran for two months, on Wednesday. BUT, as for YOU... in 2017 would you like to come on the trip of a lifetime, though the still very unknown (but incredibly amazing) nation of Iran? The 2017 YOMADIC UNTOURS have been released. I expect demand to be high... And for 2017, we've changed things slightly - this will be the 8th and 9th Yomadic Untour through Iran (!!!) and we like to keep things fresh. So, all the info you need is at the link below... (photo of my friend Miran, the coolest coffee guy in Esfahan). Hope you can make it! Nate. *** UPDATE: October tours only have a few seats left all other tours sold out)...

Ya know, I think if around 90% of jobs were eliminated, we'd be a much happier bunch of humans. Imagine all the free time we would have, if we didn't have a job? Sure, we'd all have less money - but then we'd just have to spend our time doing things that don't cost much. Maybe we'd learn how to cook - preparing a healthy meal and enjoying it slowly with friends and family - that would sure beat fast-food on the way back from the office. Or, we could read more books - passed onto us from our loved ones and friendly non-employed neighbours. Even spend time helping those people that needed our help, there's plenty of ways we can make the world a better place. But, these are all dreams. So, since you're probably at work today, wishing you weren't, why not kill some time by reading about Chernobyl. It's my 100% guaranteed office time waster, now with extra photos (from my phone, since my camera died at Chernobyl for totally inexplicable reasons...)

Stray dogs, broken down van, radiation scans, encounters with plain-clothes armed Chernobyl patrol guys, and failed electronics. Best overnighter ever.

Hello there fellow human users of Facebook! FYI - tomorrow, there will be a new post over on Yomadic. Here's a teaser, from the abandoned atomic city "Pripyat" in Ukraine - we stayed overnight in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, with a gang of people that joined us from all over the planet, and everything went exactly as planned.... . Full story tomorrow. For now, please enjoy this photo of a stray Chernobyl dog that followed us around the abandoned city, and yes, he tested all clear for radiation. Click like, if you are ambivalent about whether you love or hate Facebook, like me, and have a great day, where-ever you are.

14/08/2016

Of course, you could replace the word "Russia" with "Rio" in the title below. Because, Olympic venues have a long history of being left to ruins, very soon after the games are over. I wrote this article after visiting Sarajevo, former site of the Winter Olympics, right around the time of the Russian winter Olympics. Rio's future? Probably look to Athens for a prediction on what lies ahead... (BTW, I'm REALLY wanting to re-visit this Bobsled track when it's deep in snow this coming winter...)

Long after the 1984 Winter Olympics, a graffiti covered abandoned Sarajevo bobsled track snakes it's way through overgrown forest. Sochi, Russia, it's time to take notes.

On the island of Krk, this abandoned modernist hotel/casino/hotbed of 1970’s awesomeness was the brainchild of Bob Guccione – owner of Penthouse Magazine worldwide. I visited it a little while back, and have just sold the photos to be published in a German book featuring more stuff like this:

The Penthouse Club Adriatic casino, part of the Haludovo Palace Hotel, is located on the island of Krk, Croatia. Today, the Haludovo Hotel is not exactly how the Penthouse Pets left the modernist icon in 1973.

02/08/2016

Sometimes, I get paid for my photos. Here's the deal - when used in a "non-commericial" manner, I always give my photos away, for free, no strings attached. Students have used my photos in their university work, non-profit organisations in their marketing materials, a movie studio (releasing a movie for free) used my photos of Belgrade, and more.

Occasionally, I sell my photos - album covers, backdrops for Silicon Valley CEO presentations, for-profit corporate websites, and magazines are some of the typical buyers. Prior to commencing this travel-journey, I had experience in the professional artistic world, and the professional photography world. So, my advice to any photographers/artists, is to learn what you are worth - and remember that when organisations are making a profit from your work, you are entitled to a fair-slice of that profit. Don't undervalue yourself.

And, conversely, don't be afraid to give your work away to those people/organisations that deserve it. Indeed, giving your work away to worthy causes will likely lead to paid-work down the track.

My photos of the brutalist architecture in Skopje, Macedonia, were just used in "Escapism" - a magazine based in London. If you would like to read the article online, it's right here: https://issuu.com/squareupmedia/docs/e32/66

Are you coming to join me here in Ukraine? I'm collaborating with Darmon Richter of the acclaimed "Bohemian Blog" - and we've just launched our limited, exclusive, "Pop-Up Tour" of these parts, commencing on September 4th (yes, that soon). Limited and exclusive doesn't mean expensive - we've priced this lower than any of our previous sold-out "Untours", because really, we'd love you to join us, and we just enjoy having a good time. All details are right here: http://yomadic.com/pop

If you followed me on Instagram, you would know I'm in Kiev, Ukraine. In other news, this week I'll enter my fifth year of full-time travel, yes, time is flying, life is short, I hope you're happy and making the most of your oh-so-brief time on Earth. So, there will be a short new post soon over on that other non-Facebook thing called "the blog", and, btw, all Iran Untour seats for 2016 have sold out - hope you can join me next year... and maybe, just maybe, I'll do more than one Facebook update a month. We'll see. In any case, have a great week no matter where you are on this planet.

ABOUT YOMADIC

Hi, I’m Nate Robert, founder of YOMADIC.

On July 30th, 2012, I began permanently exploring the planet. I’m addicted to travel, and documenting the lesser known, through more than eighty countries so far. When I’m not taking photos, writing, or making films - I’m leading and organising our own Yomadic tours, specialising in unique destinations like Iran, Ukraine, and Tunisia.

(btw, our journeys are designed for people who love the spirit of independent travel, and the camaraderie of a small group of travelling friends, but *really* wouldn’t enjoy a typical “corporate” group tour, and, I hope you can join us...)

Behind the scenes, Yomadic provides travel logistics and tour leading for like-minded travel companies based in the USA and Australia. We’ve been mentioned in rag-tag publications like the Washington Post, USA Today, Lonely Planet, the BBC, the Sunday Times in two different countries, the largest news website in Australia, The Guardian, and The Huffington Post.
