Interesting and informative article. But what about DPUs?

In the railroad industry, different locomotive models and manufacturers can be found in any train consist operating in different directions from one another. The ability to achieve this is due to a set of uniform standards for both pneumatic and electrical connections adopted by all manufacturers an...

CSX Meet on Broadway in Cheektowaga on Sunday July 15, 2018 at 10:12am. Was out for a bike ride and caught this meet on the CSX line just East of Frontier yard. CSX 5265 (ES40DC) was pulling a freight out of the yard, stopped over the thruway and then backed it into the yard again. I don't know any of the train numbers, etc.

Really cool!

Really cool!

The "Cut-off": Since 1852, the railroad track here was pretty much situated in the same spot as trains would enter what is now Letchworth SP in WNY. Captured the top image on Sunday with my drone, with permission to launch from property owner on west side. You can see where the new track will split, the cut-off. Freight trains will now have a wider approach, heading east, as they prepare to cross the new arch at a higher rate of speed (likely 25 mph in the first year). Ironically, this cut-off point is in the precise spot where I encountered two bears inside the park in June of 2014 as I was waiting to take pictures of a train. To say I had an adrenaline spike at the time would be greatly understating the situation. Work is now being done to lay the ballast and track to (and on) the new arch. A trestle and arch, situated side by side--for now. Thanks to Ken Wallace for working as my spotter!
