Pretty nice Brown Pow out there right now! Getting some training miles in for The Old Fort Strong Endurance Festival December 7th. The event is a fundraiser for 50 families directly impacted by Hurricane Helene that suffered loss or damage to their homes. I will be doing the 12 Hour ride and am raising money to help these families. Feel free to donate on my donation page link in the bio.
Together, as a community we can ride with a purpose to help those directly affected by the storm. Thanks for your support and see you in December.

Pisgah Magic in the air today. Cove Creek to Long Branch to Lower Butter was on the menu and all was clear. One tree on Long and one on Searcy Creek Rd was it. Thanks to all the trail volunteers and sawyers that were busy this weekend all over the forest.

Pisgah Proper was showing off today. On Friday, our beloved Pisgah National Forest opened back up again for recreation. The trail faries came out and cleared the whole Butter Gap loop out of the Fish Hatchery. Literally there were only 2 minor trees on Searcy Rd in the entire 16 mile loop. It was running so smooth and fast with a nice layer of fresh leaves for some perfect mid Fall conditions. The leaves were so beautiful and the Fall temps were about as good as it gets. Thank you to the volunteer sawyers that were very busy today doing their thing on the many trees down in the forest after . I heard many places got some love today including Cove Creek, Avery, Buckhorn, Club, Boyd Branch, Explorer, Spencer, part of Ingles Field, part of Trace, and others. It will take some time and work, but we will be back at it really soon. Hope you had a good day and got into some fun in the woods.

Hope and Resilience: Please consider donating to my fundraising efforts for the Tanawha Adventures Old Fort Strong Endurance Festival 12 hour Mountain Bike Race in December at Camp Grier. I have not raced in a few years, and it will be a big challenge. Riding into the night in December will be fun and a unique challenge in itself. Money will go directly to the people in Old Fort who lost homes or businesses, and will help them to rebuild. Help me to be a symbol of resilience and hope in these challenging times. Thanks for the support. Consider donating to my race fundraiser at:

Self Care. For two weeks we have been digging out from the aftermath of and it has been pretty overwhelming mentally and taxing on the brain. Coming back to the war zone every evening in Swannanoa breaks my heart for all the destruction and loss. Since Pisgah Proper is still closed, we headed West for some trail therapy to the🔥Fire Mountain trails in Cherokee. Perfect temps, beautiful Fall colors poppin, and perfect dirt makes for a pretty good Sunday. More please.

Hope and a smiling face. This pic is from our last tour before the devastating Hurricane Helene that has left a path of destruction and despair in many parts of Western North Carolina. I live in Swannanoa, one of the many hard hit areas. People have lost everything: homes, businesses, pets, everything, including many lost lives. Infrastructure like bridges, roads, water and power lines all around are destroyed. Debris is everywhere. My wife and I still are without power and water and we had flooding in our 1st floor of the house. We are surviving and the community is rallying together to help everyone. I have seen so much good in the midst of all the terror, so I wanted to post a pic of a smiling kid on bikes to pass along Hope and Resilience to others. It is probably best to not come to our area for recreation for many months. I am sure the trails are toast in many areas. Thank you to all the help that has poured in from all over the country. Thank you to everyone who has given us food and water, and all the workers and first responders trying to get our community back to functioning. Please also think of my good friend and coach Steve who lost his whole gym in Asheville to flooding. And please think of us on your next ride and keep sending out hope and smiles to everyone. Stay strong everyone.

New trails in The Pisgah! Thanks so much to everyone involved in this huge project! It takes a village. The collaborations between the Forest Service, outdoor community partners, trail builders, trail advocacy groups, local volunteers, and so many others is nothing short of amazing! A project like this is truly a model of how the community and government agencies, along with outdoor recreation grants, can come together to create recreation opportunities for so many people and future generations. Thanks for your tireless vision for new trails the past few years, Jason for advocating for these new trail connections and so much more, Lisa at the Forest Service for your amazing energy and enthusiasm for leading this project, thanks so much Trase for your artistic vision of creating fun trails in WNC, thank you for all your many hours building and sustaining so many trails all over the area, thank you to all the volunteers that gave of their time to move dirt, and thanks to any other person involved in this monumental project. Without partnerships, none of this would be possible. Get involved in the local trail community when you can, advocate and support for sustainable recreation, and most of all get out and play! Drains are all cleaned and resurfaced on the West side of Heartbreak/Star Gap Trail all the way to Star Gap!! We had a solid and motivated crew of 9 from work the 2 miles up to Star Gap today. This work is helping to prep for the new Lower Heartbreak trail addition coming soon by . Star Gap will be the main access trail for the new Heartbreak extension, so it was really cool to be a part of this process by giving Star Gap some love. We can't wait to ride the new trail this Spring!! .

One of the best things about living in the South is year round riding. Winter tours are so fun and the views are always so good because the canopy of leaves are gone. I love the unique views that present themselves in different places during the winter, and that open up in completely new places you don't expect. As long as you layer up, winter Temps commonly reach into the 50s and 60s with plentiful sunshine and dry trails. No freeze thaw this day and the trails were perfect! This awesome client wanted to pre-ride stage 5 of the Pisgah Stage Race and check out Butter and Bracken. Smiles 😊 all around and happy clients make our day as well.

Finishing this year was a really special moment for me. I hadn't really done many long rides this year, no races, or any of the long endurance ITT's put on by TennesseeGravel that I have done the past couple of years. You know, life I guess. Things change, you get busy, and you always say to yourself maybe next month. The end of the year came, and I knew that the festive was going down this year, especially since I didn't complete it last year because of being sick. I was visiting family in Texas, so I started the first 4 days on a mixture of greenway trails on a too small Walmart bike from my brother, and some trainer miles to keep me on track. Run what ya brung right? When I got back home to NC, I knew I had to hit the miles hard to finish. The first day back, I went out for some cold miles at 10pm and it was so beautiful out there. I saw a fox, owl, egret, and a rabbit that night on the super quiet roads. Who knew riding from 10-11pm is so magical? Something clicked that night and I felt the motivation coming in strong. The next 4 days were all bliss miles on local road and gravel, and the miles floated by with ease. The last day culminated with a 2 ride day of 86 miles, one at 26 miles in the morning and the last a 60 miler to Marshall and back from Asheville. Somewhere during that time, a spark was relit and the joy was flowing like melted butter and cheese on a hot potato. I was embracing the phrase and laughing at the obsurdity of it all, but at the same time everything was clicking, and I was being taken to a whole other level of what was possible. I love it all, and man it was really a feeling that is hard to describe accept peace and pure joy in movement. Mind and body moving as one, and I was left with just pure experience, joy and connection. Not a bad way to spend 8 days back to back riding. Stats: 311 miles, 24 hours ride time and10,000 ft of elevation. I bested my previous 2 Festive times by 3 hours. Can't wait to do it again. Thanks for the last minute chain lube and motivation and thank you for supporting me in this crazy adventure. You are capable of more than you think.

That light right before dark is pretty special. Then I saw a beautiful danger noodle 🐍 with a full belly that I tried to get off the road. It didn't like that and froze up and wouldn't move. It was then time to move on, and I had to hope for the best.
