Currently cycling in northern Laos by the Chinese border —super remote, stunning, very challenging climbs. This is not a common route for cyclists and it is essentially devoid of tourism. I pointed at the map and found the road that would take me to the most northern part of Laos by the Chinese border. But because it’s so remote, there’s very little that I can find out about it. Even Google maps does not have much. So every day is a surprise. I am cycling through the mountains and sometimes encounter little villages where people live pretty primitively—bathing in the rivers, houses made from bamboo and wood, women walk some distance to gather wood and carry it on their backs. There is very little commerce. Sometimes a restaurant with pork noodle soup. It is a great opportunity to embrace the unknown and uncertainty. And push myself physically. I definitely notice that my daily breathwork practice is helping my endurance, flexibility, and strength on the bicycle.
