Some people have been writing me asking about why I stopped promoting different tourist destinations in Mexico , Tulum in Particular many people ask me about why I stopped Promoting it and updating hotels, activities and restaurants.
The answer is the same not only for Tulum but for many of the destinations that I did articles and photos for over the years like Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Puerto Vallarta and even Los Cabos most recently.
Organized Crime and Drug Cartels are flooding into these destinations fastewr than ever and bringing with them conflicts between competing cartels, street asesinations and violence to control the drug and prostitution trade.
Coupled with Corrupt Government and Law Enforcement Mexicos once well protected Caribbean and Pacific Jewals have become war zones.
No longer is it same to go to "el centro" in Cancun or walk around at night from your hotel to a restaurant or night club and much less walking home.
You can find street level drug dealers all along 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen offering tourists and locals alike a wide variety of drugs.
Even in the quaint town of Tulum Police recently killed a visiting woman who was intoxicated and falling down by choking her out and leaving her dead on the street until a pickup came and they put her in the back and took her who knows where and no medical attention offered or given.
I could go on but why? This is the reason I no longer promote Mexico as a vacation destination. Do you need another? The Cartels have 50 caliber guns mounted in the beds of pick ups, carry AK-47's P90's and a wide variety of assault weapons and it makes in impossible to get to some of the great hidden treasures of Mexico like the Butterfly's in Michoacan a place full of history and now daily wars between the Cartel and the Police and Military.
I have lived in and promoted Mexico for 26 years but those days are done, it is time to go home and promote all of the natural wonders of the US and Canada.
