The artsy Bahnhöfli lies right next to Lucerne's main station and serves burgers salads and the like, but with its satin chairs and pillows, colourful flowers and random items like old briefcases and plush toys as decoration it's also a charming place for a coffee in the morning or a drink in the evening.

Don't know where to cool off? Here is another suggestion: Seebad Luzern, originally opened its doors over 130 years ago in 1885. They also offer massages, yoga and occasional summer concerts. After 20:00 swimming is prohibited, but it remains open with a relaxed bar vibe.

Restaurant Izakaya Nozomi Luzern at Hostel Barabas proves that Japanese cuisine is so much more than sushi. Taburettli is the Swiss German word for a small chair without a back. Inside the Kafi-Bar Taburettli you'll find a simple décor and a few seats at the coffee bar. Lucerne's former central prison is now a hostel. The prison was built in 1862 and was in operation until 1998. And yes, you'll be sleeping in a former cell. The hostel also has an outside boulevard café, a cosy courtyard and a recreation room where you can play table football, billiards or darts.
