Nepalese farmers are busy sowing rice seedlings in a paddy field during the monsoon season along the Sindhuli Manthali highway. Despite a decade-long prioritized investment and planning the agriculture sector in Nepal is continuously declining in terms of production and labor engagement. The share of agriculture in GDP has decreased from 69% in 1974/75 to 31% in 2009/2010. Also, the proportion of the economically active population engaged in agriculture has shown a sharp decline from 94% in the census of 1971 to 60% in 2001.

Langtang region sits on Nepal’s border with Tibet, a short distance north of Kathmandu. Langtang village lies in this popular trekking region near the base of Mt. Langtang Lirung. The inhabitants of Langtang Valley migrated here from Tibet around 600 years ago.

Nepal’s third main trekking region after the Khumbu (Everest) region and the Annapurnas was the Langtang region for many years.

But, the Langtang valley was one of the most affected areas by the 2015 earthquake in Nepal. The whole valley was buried under the lump of stones and mud resulted due to the landslides and avalanche breakdowns.

However, after 4 years of the devastating earthquake, it is on its way to taking back its title and glory as one of the best trekking destinations in Nepal. The locals have rebuilt the village, maintained the trekking trails, restored the teahouses, and made the Langtang village safe for trekking.

Langtang National Park was established in 1976 as Nepal's first Himalayan national park and the country's fourth protected area. It exceeds an elevation range of 6,450 m (21,160 ft) and covers an area of 1,710 km2 (660 sq mi) in the Nuwakot, Rasuwa, and Sindhulpalchok Districts of the central Himalayan region encompassing 26 village communities. In the north and east, it is linked with Qomolangma National Nature Preserve in Tibet Autonomous Region. The eastern and western boundaries follow the Bhote Koshi and the Trishuli river, respectively. The southern border lies 32 km (20 mi) north of the Kathmandu Valley.

The Gosainkunda lake is located at an elevation of 4,300 m (14,100 ft) inside the park. The Dorje Lakpa range at 6,988 m (22,927 ft) bisects the park from west-east to south-east. The summit of Langtang Lirung (7,245 m (23,770 ft)) is the highest point in the park.

KYANJIN RI– THE HIGHPOINT OF THE LANGTANG TREK

Kyanjin RI 1 And 2 (4773m / 15655 ft) are the most unique viewpoints and the best thing to explore on the Langtang National Park trek which lies on the northeast of Kyanjin Gumba (3830m). Once at the top the views are amazing.

Langtang is a region in the north-central Himalayas of the Bagmati Province of Nepal. Situated 51 km north of the Kathmandu Valley, the region is renowned for hosting the Langtang national park, which eventually constitutes the border with the Tibet autonomous region of China. About 4,500 people reside inside the park (with Tamang as a majority), and many more depend on it for timber and firewood.

Taudaha Lake is a small lake on the outskirts of Kathmandu, in Nepal. The name comes from a combination of Newari words 'Ta', meaning snake, and 'Daha', which means lake.
Mythological origins
The Taudaha Lake is believed to be a remnant pool of the huge lake that once existed where now the city of Kathmandu sits. According to mythology, a Buddhist mythical character Manjushree cut the hill in the valley's south, allowing the lake's water to drain off, thereby creating land that was duly occupied by people. Folklore suggests that that "cut" in the hill is the Chobar Gorge, a narrow passage from which the Bagmati River exits the Kathmandu Valley. After the water of the ancient lake drained away, a few small lakes and ponds were created beyond the hills. Taudaha is believed to be one of those ponds.[1]

When the lake was drained, countless nagas, mythological creatures that were half-human and half serpent, were left homeless. This made the Naga King Karkotak livid. In order to allay his wrath, the locals living near Taudaha built an underwater palace, studded with precious stones and riches beyond imagination. The Serpent King was pleased and ruled his serpent subjects in their underwater kingdom. The king also promised to protect the humans living around the lake, on the condition that the tranquility of his water abode never is disrupted. It is due to this that even today locals do not swim or fish in the lake.
