I have been leading custom birding trips to Panama for years. I take my clients to the central lowlands and western highlands for some of the best birding on earth. Panama is a very special place and every individual that accompanies me on my trips leaves with a sense of awe and VERY large species list. I am a professional ornithologist and my tours are structured so that they combine a traditiona
l tropical birding tour with lessons in the natural and evolutionary history of birds and their habitats.

Reminiscing about our recent amazing tour of the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. Nearly 300 species and over 30 endemics. A wonderful tour! Looking ahead to our upcoming tour of the Central Andes of Colombia...which promises to be another fabulous time. There are still 2 spots left on this tour!
A highly gregarious flock of Guira Cuckoo (Guira guira) hanging out in a palm on a drizzly morning in Brazil.
Unlike many heron species, the Whistling Heron (Syrigma sibilatrix) tends to prefer open grassland habitats for foraging. We had multiple looks at many individuals during our tour of Southeastern Brazil.
The Black-and-Gold Cotinga (Lipaugus ater) is an endemic species found only in the humid montane forest of the southeastern Atlantic Forest of Brazil. The species has an extremely small range and is declining due to habitat loss. We were fortunate enough to come across this beautiful bird on today's trip to Macaé de Cima.
Some shots of the group as we've visited multiple sites throughout the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. So far, we have birded 5 elevational zones and are planning to visit two more!
A Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl (Glaucidium brasilianum) was being mobbed today by a group of tanagers on our walk through the Atlantic Forest of Brazil.
The Capped Heron (Pilherodius pileatus) is an insanely beautiful bird! Our group had great looks today.

What a great day in Brazil! Looking forward to the next 6 as well!
Amazing day in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. A total of 75 species and 5 endemics...and we are just getting started!
The Buffy Helmetcrest (Oxypogon stuebelii), a vulnerable high-elevation species of hummingbird (seen here at 13,000ft), is difficult to find among the wind blown stunted vegetation of the paramo habitat of Colombia. An amazing bird and a target species of our October tour! Come along and see one!

Breakfast with Black-billed Mountain Toucans (Andigena nigrirostris). Does it get any better??

The Guira Cuckoo (Guira guira), a large and charismatic cuckoo found in eastern Brazil. An amazing bird, sure to get your attention!
Awesome bird alert! The Red-legged Seriema (Cariama cristata) is a large, ground-dwelling bird found in dry, open habitats of eastern Brazil. They tackle large prey (including the highly venomous coral snake) by slamming them to the ground and can run at speeds of 40 mph! They will be fairly common birds on our July tour.
Our next tour will visit the rare and threatened Atlantic Forest habitat that lies just outside Rio de Janeiro. The birds are abundant and July is the perfect time to visit! Come birding with us
