There is a treasure at the Westin Hyderabad Mindspace.
It’s not the way the haunting flute music wafts up to the top levels from the lobby, which I loved. It’s not even the way the hotel makes you simultaneously feel both at home and somewhere foreign, easing the sense of culture shock.
It’s the reason why everyone we talked to recommended this hotel, including the hundreds of five-star reviews that convinced me to pick the Westin over every other option.
It’s Rajeev, their chef de cuisine.
Rajeev has a passion for people and food. And he combines them in such a way that you instantly feel you are enjoying a fine dining experience with a good friend.
Every day he curated our menu, making sure we experienced all the food Hyderabad is famous for without endangering our foreign stomachs.
And each day he introduced us to new dishes and flavors, from lamb dosa served with four distinct chutneys, to pickled garlic, to his signature dal makhni, which takes over 48 hours to perfect.
During the week I was there, we talked and laughed and he promised to look after my husband once I left, but the night he produced a surprise Indian birthday cake for the well-traveled elderly couple sitting next to us was the night I knew. No matter how long I am gone, I will always have a friend in hyderabad. 1. Minced lamb dosa with tomato, ginger, bottle-gourd and coconut chutneys 2. Mint and tamarind chutneys with samosas 3.
