I love that this rock hunting "craze" is still going strong! Our family has been doing it for a long time now and my kids still love it 😊 it's like a treasure hunt for the whole family 😃
Isn't this just the perfect painted rock to be doing a fly over of Aitutaki Lagoon from the plane?!

San Francisco! Who else has always wanted to go here?!
Reposted from - The 3 musketeers set off on their last trip that they will have in my suit case for some time, to San Francisco!! They saw the Grace Cathedral on Nob hill and the famous tram pass by but were too cheap to get on it! Or maybe just wanted some exercise after another long flight! They have really maximised the northern routes recently and i will miss taking them around with me, even when i look like a weirdo sometimes taking their photo in public!

This posts a little bit different because this time it was one of our family (Struggles and Strength) who was able to take one of our rocks traveling 😃 My husband went to China a few weeks ago on a business trip so the kids and I sent one of our rocks traveling with him and had fun taking in the sights through the photos that he shared with us while he was over there.
Has anyone else taken some of their rocks traveling with them or with family and friends? I'd love to hear about the places that your rocks have found themselves 😃

Reposted from - Hola! The 3 musketeers made it to South America; photo one is Puerto Madero, a modern part of the city lined with nice cafes and restaurants and the famous bridge you can see represents a couple doing the tango! Photo two is the very famous Casa Rosada (Pink House) in Plaza de Mayo, (read below for history) and photo three is the Torre Monumental.
Plaza de mayo ; is a city square and main foundational site of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was formed in 1884 after the demolition of the Recova building, unifying the city's Plaza Mayor and Plaza de Armas, by that time known as Plaza de la Victoria and Plaza 25 de Mayo respectively.
Casa Rosada; The Pink House, houses the presendential Office. The building also houses a museum, which contains objects relating to former presidents of Argentina. It has been declared a National Historic Monument of Argentina.
Torre Monumental; the clock tower was given to the city by its British Community in 1916, to commemorate independence.

originated in Whangarei, people from all over town painting rocks & hiding them for local children to find! Its a community wide scavenger hunt and its spreading around the country! Now the airnz sponsorship team & founder are taking nz rocks worldwide!! How does it work? When you find a rock, you take a photo & post it on their social media page so the person who hid the rock can see, then you rehide the rock for the next person to find!! So what am i doing with these rocks?
Its my privilege to be travelling with these 3 in my suitcase around the world for the next 3 months. They were intricately painted by the Powell family & the Smith family from Auckland, and they will be vicariously following them around the world!
I'll be proudly representing Longhaul cabincrew, taking them to all 777 destinations!! Join the trip @ , also check out the hash tags & the Whangarei rocks page for more incredible rocks!

I was asked to be part of this awesome initiative which started in Whangarei. A community wide scavenger hunt where these rocks are hidden somewhere.. this in turn encourages the kids to get outdoors and in the fresh air to find them! The idea is that you hunt for the rocks, when you find them you take a photo and post it on their social media page so the person who hid the rock can see, then you rehide the rock somewhere else for the next person to find. It has become quite the craze. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was gifted these three beauties to take care of for the next 3months for The Kelly Family & The Hunters! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I will take them on adventures with me all over the world sharing fun facts, stories etc about the places these rocks get to visit - so join me, share the journey and follow the hashtag to see where all the other rocks get to over the three months!

Hi 🖐 I'm Serena from Struggles and Strength and these are my 3 awesome boys (there's also a baby bump hiding in there somewhere 🙉 and my husband Kaleb was busy working when I took this selfie which is why he is nowhere to be seen 🙈). We live in rural Whangarei, New Zealand and love to get out and explore wherever we may be 😊
The project is something that I have been working on behind the scenes for a long time now and I'm so excited for it to be launching this week 🛫
This awesome project came about because of my kids love for painting, hiding and finding (or rock hunting as we call it) rocks in our local community. As weird as that may sound I promise you it is a legitimate family pastime 😂 We hide rocks in our local parks, playgrounds, beaches, etc. for others to find and in turn we go rock hunting to see what awesome painted rocks we can find before we re-hide them for the next person. It's like this awesome treasure hunt that gets you out and about, exploring new places in your hometown and around the country (people actually do this all over the world 🌏)!
Well, about a year and half ago when we couldn't afford to go and visit my brother and his wife and their new baby (who live on the other side of the world from us in The Netherlands!) we decided that it would be fun to paint some rocks and send them overseas to be hidden in other countries for people to find. We hoped that the people that found our rocks would contact us (using the details I had written on the back of the rocks) to share photos of where they had found them and then where they had hidden them next. Unfortunately, we never heard anything and my boys were so disappointed 🙁 And that's when my idea was born 🤔
I wanted to find a way that we could send our rocks traveling and be guaranteed that our rocks would get to travel all over the world and that we would be able to follow for the whole journey to see all of the different places that our rocks went. So I contacted the team at Air New Zealand to see if they might be able to help us out and I was blown away when they came back to me to say that they would be happy to take our rocks traveling 😄
And so the project was born!
Now I know that there are a lot of families, adults and children out there that also love joining in on the rock painting/hiding/finding craze so Air New Zealand and I really wanted to be able to share this project so that everyone could join in and follow along as our rocks travel around the world. In fact we even asked other people and families from around NZ to contribute some of their own rocks to send traveling with ours 🌍
So there are a total of 25 different rocks that have been contributed by our family and others from all around NZ and for the next 3 months they are going to be traveling all around the world with 7 wonderful people from the Air NZ team who are going to be sharing our rocks journey with everyone. Taking photos from all of the places that they go to and with people they might meet so that we can 🌍
So if you want to join in the fun and follow along then be sure to follow Rocks on Tour for updates as well as the hashtag and share with anyone you know who would enjoy the journey too 😃

Hi, I’m Serena, a wife to my awesome husband Kaleb and mother to 3 amazing boys, Micah age 6 (almost 7yrs), Eli aged 5, Issac aged 2, and baby #4 on the way. I share more about my family and I over at www.facebook.com/mystrugglesandstrength and www.instagram.com/strugglesandstrength so be sure to check us out over there too.
#rocksontour is an exciting project that I have been working on for a little while now and I am so excited that Air New Zealand has partnered with me to make it happen! I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us! And if you would like to follow along to then be sure to like this page, follow us over at www.instagram.com/nzrocksontour and also follow the hashtag #rocksontour where we will be sharing updates on our rock’s travels around the world. And of course if you know anyone else who would enjoy following along then be sure to share these pages with them so that they can join in the fun too :)
To give you a bit of background on how this project came about I have to go back a couple of years to when my children and I discovered the rock painting/hiding craze that seemed to hit New Zealand. Now if you haven’t heard of this before then it’s when you paint rocks and then hide them all around your local parks, beaches, playgrounds, etc. for other people to find. And if you go rock hunting and find some painted rocks yourself then the idea is that you take them with you to re-hide somewhere new. It’s like an awesome treasure hunt for children that really helps you discover new places in your town that you have never been to before and it’s heaps of fun. My kids love it!
Now jump back to a year and a half ago to when my brother Joel and his wife Anne, who live in The Netherlands, had their first child. My boys desperately wanted to go over and meet their new cousin and visit them all as we hadn’t seen them in a few years (and I must admit Kaleb and I did too) but the reality was that there was no way that we could afford to take our family of 5 across to the other side of the world! So I decided that we could paint some NZ inspired rocks and send them over to The Netherlands with the children’s grandparents so that they could hide them in different countries with the hope that others would find them and send us photos of where they found them and where they were going to re-hide them. As well as being heaps of fun following our rocks journey, #travelingvicariouslythroughrocks, I thought it would be a great way for my boys to learn more about the world around them and just how big it is.
So how did it go?? Well, unfortunately my idea didn’t work at all, in fact it failed miserably! The kids’ grandparents hid the rocks in different places overseas but no-one ever let us know whether they had been found so it wasn’t a journey at all :(
This is where Air New Zealand comes in. When my idea didn’t work we were all really disappointed so I decided to contact Air New Zealand to see if they might be interested in helping us out and taking some more of our rocks traveling around the world. This time with the idea that, rather than hiding our rocks in different countries, Air New Zealand could keep the rocks with them as they traveled from place to place and take photos to send us of our rocks in different countries as they traveled around the world. That way we could gaurantee that we would definitely see our rocks traveling to different places and be able to follow along with their journey. And I was blown away when the team at Air New Zealand came back to me and said that they would love to be a part of this project!!!
Now I know that there are lots of families, adults, and children who enjoy painting/hiding rocks just as much as we do, not only in New Zealand but also around the world, so we decided to open it up so that anyone could follow along with our #rocksontour and join in the fun. And as well as the rocks that my boys and I painted, we also had lots of people around NZ send us rocks to be a part of this project and send off traveling too! Air New Zealand will be taking 25 rocks from us here in NZ and sending them with 7 crew members across different flights and they will travel with them for the next 3 months. They will share our rock’s travels with us over those 3 months through photos on social media using the hashtag #rocksontour and I will be sharing it all, including behind the scenes photos and information, on this page and on our Instagram profile @nzrocksontour so be sure to go and follow those pages to keep up to date with everything that happens.
I hope you join us and enjoy #travelingvicariouslythroughrocks and have as much fun as we do seeing all of the adventures that our little rocks go on!
Serena
P.S. If there are lots of you that enjoy and follow along on this journey then there is a chance that this 3 month project might get extended and that our rocks get to travel even more! So if you want to see more, and love this fun project as much as we do then please make sure to share what we are doing with anyone you know that might be interested in joining us too :) And if you like what we are doing then please support us by following, liking and sharing on our #rocksontour pages www.facebook.com/nzrocksontour and www.instagram.com/nzrocksontour Thanks so much!
