An architectural treasure in its own right, our museum is housed in a National Historic Landmark building and features interactive exhibits on the people, places, and movements that shaped the state and nation.

Our joint ticket program starts tomorrow! Beginning July 1, you can get access to the South Carolina Historical Society Museum and The Powder Magazine with the Fire & Powder Pass. It's just $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and veterans, and $10 for youth and can be purchased at either museum.

📷: The Children's Museum of the Lowcountry is housed in a building which was once part of Camden Depot, the terminus for the South Carolina Railroad Company’s Charleston-Camden line. Designed by architect Edward C. Jones to look like a medieval castle, the building was constructed, c. 1850.

The Charleston Museum and its historic houses (Heyward-Washington & Joseph Manigault Houses) will be open until 1:30 pm on Christmas Eve and CLOSED on Christmas Day. We will resume normal hours on December 26.

📷: The Powder Magazine of South Carolina is South Carolina’s oldest public building and was completed in 1713 to provide proper storage of arms and gunpowder. The photograph was taken in November 1942. Note the wooden fence on Cumberland Street.

📷: The building which houses the Old Slave Mart Museum is the only remaining structure from a complex of buildings known as Ryan’s Mart, where hundreds of auctions of enslaved people were held from 1856 to 1863.

📷: The Gibbes Museum of Art is home to the foremost collection of American art that incorporates the story of Charleston. This photograph was taken in November 1938 when the Gibbes was displaying works created by WPA artists.

The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon, c. 1910. Completed in 1771, the site is recognized as one of the three most historic colonial public buildings in the United States along with Faneuil Hall in Boston and Independence Hall in Philadelphia.
