I finally got to have my bath at one of the world's best "bath with a view" places in the world....and with coffee. I slept so well since arriving here that I napped in the afternoon yesterday, then just before dinner and when I arrived back from dinner that I was able to wake up at sunrise and hop into the bubble bath with my coffee and enjoy the Nile...thank you Just Gospel for my bath milk that you gave me for Chriatmas. After breakfast at the Airport Spur headed off to the terminal and always get asked for my SA Passport and they stamp that one not my Irish. Great staff on Uganda Air flight 711. Food good and remembered to thank everyone. They reminded us constantly to read the safety sheet and there was a lot of turbulence. We definitely took the sand road...when we got off the flight I thanked them for their care and attention to our safety as they were first and foremost safety officers and not waiters. Took them completely by surprise but loads of smiles...

I sat next to a lovely lady Robin from the USA who was teaching in Kamapala and had just married a man from Zambia and then settling in JHB. She asked me what was my fav things about JHB and that took an hour. Then what was my best things about Uganda and Kampala and she hadn't yet seen any of the places I recommended in Kampala or Greater Uganda. My fear of flying was soon forgotten.

Landing was gorgeous as we come in over Lake Victoria. Then we found the arrivals Hall a mass of humanity with no distinct line ... don't ever complain about SA again.

An hour later I went to find my bags which was always fun. I stood at the JHB carousel until the man next to me explained that there is no particular carousel so walk around till you spot your bag. And that's what I did. Thankfully both were there as one had my big screen computer and the other my clothes and some snacks as I didn't know where I would be staying.

The taxi drive road texted me before I left jhb and I was in touch with him from landing. Took me to a supermarket to get a few things as he said I'd be staying in an apartment. We laughed about Africa all the way and found the apartment via a series of landmarks.

Good enough spot. Seems safe and the little air con is struggling.. A few bugs floating around in the little kitchen but I brought zip loc bags so everything was popped into a ziploc and into the fridge.

And the adventure begins. Will be collected tomorrow around 10 and then off to work we go for the CAADP world conference ....

And I'm off...Uganda here we come. Standby ticket but made it through, have a taxi to collect me on that side but not sure where he will be taking me as no accommodation yet. Thank heavens no visa required as I'm travelling on an Irish Passport. A little nervous as its the first trip I'm doing alone. Geniene Preston
