This September has had unusually hot weather, though it’s hard to call any weather “usual” in September.

While the weather isn’t reliable this time of year, the fishing generally is! It’s a great time for fall crappies, walleye, or muskies like these ones.

Our social media has been quiet, but the fishing has not been! Luckily we can always count on Brett for a great photo of a big fish like this 48” musky. Congrats on another beauty!

We will try to do better keeping the fish on your feed and showing off what a trip to King Island has to offer.

New this year!
We added a gazebo to our front dock swimming area, perfect for taking a break from the sun or watching the sunset to the west while escaping any bugs.

Anyone with sharp eyes may have spotted it at the back dock in our last post, but that was just its winter home to minimize the chance of ice damage. Can’t wait to see it used this summer!

2024 season preparations have begun!
The morning boat rides are still chilly and the leaves aren’t back yet, but the ice is out nice and early and we’ve made our first few trips to King Island. Can’t wait to welcome our first guests in a couple weeks for walleye opener!

For Throwback Thursday we’re throwing it way back- here is some of the story of how King Island started out, as told by the founder himself, Kendall Hanson in a 1980 publication. And yes, that does mean King Island is almost 100 years old and almost 100 years in the Hanson family, we’ll be celebrating in 2026!

Can’t beat this for a photo recreate from last summer! Beau and his son Rylan, 27 years apart with their first muskies. Both about 10 years old and caught these 40” muskies close to King Island.. what a family memory!
