Today my husband and I took a tour through the Shoshoni Lake View Cemetery in Shoshoni WY. What a lovely and peaceful place. I missed a cemetery tour provided by the Riverton Museum a couple of years ago and have wanted to take my own tour since. So glad I did as it was well worth the trip. In the easy-to-find white gazebo you will find a complete list of those interred there. A wide array of headstones, beautiful and colorful flowers and green velvet grass.

Nothing posted for a long time and certainly NOT because I haven't done anything or been anywhere! COVID-19 has put a damper on a lot of things for everyone. Staying close to home and keeping track of events here. Some new stuff soon!

I was in Palm Springs recently visiting my son, daughter-in-law and my granddaughter. No longer living there, I forget how uplifting it is. I forget the beauty and serenity of the mountains and the desert. I forget how the colors change before your eyes. I have a special place, my place, where I go to look at the desert and reminisce. Such fond memories.

I'm going to write a story about Sacajawea. I have never been to her grave in the Washakie Cemetery. Looking forward to going there and seeing the actual burial place. Too cold right now but soon. Her statue is also at Central Wyoming College at the Tribal Building.

A recent journey up Union Pass. It was sad to see the devastation caused by the bark beetle and the unkind elements of nature. Dead and dying trees everywhere, yet there was the most stunning array of thriving wild flowers I've seen in a long time. There was some real beauty after all!

About 3+/- weeks ago I was fortunate enough to attend the unveiling of the Wyoming Women's Suffrage Pathway dedication and to hear marvelous speeches by Governor Mead and Secretary of State Ed Buchanan. Afterwards I attended a reception at South Pass City. It was cold and windy but great fun! Two buses of school kids were treated to a meeting with Governor Mead who introduced himself as "Matt". From now on, when I pass that sign at Highway Marker 44, I will remember that I was there for the unveiling of that sign.

Off to see the Piedmont Kilns near Evanston WY this weekend along with the Fort Bridger Rendezvous. Taking my new Droid Turbo cell phone as the camera! The only camera!

Idaho Falls Idaho was...covered in smoke from many fires, fires from Idaho, California, and wherever there SHOULD have been a fire. I asked what Idaho Falls' claim to fame was and all I could hear was "?". I guess I have to agree! Consequently, no pictures of the smoke and no pictures of the "?"! That's my report on Idaho Falls!

I have been negligent on writing about what's been going on with Journeys Near & Far. I have some really interesting things to talk about. For those who don't know, I was appointed by Governor Matt Mead as a Commissioner for State Parks and Cultural Resources about March 1st and my feet are wet now! I will begin to visit all of the State Parks and State historical sites in my extraordinary state, and as I do that I'll write about each. Shortly after Labor Day will be the first posting. Can't wait to show and tell!

Riverton Rendezvous just hosted the very successful 35th Hot Air Balloon Rally July 17, 18, and 19. The weather wasn't cooperative for the balloonists to fly media day Friday or t
he actual first rally day Saturday. It rained, it blew, it was overcast and cold. Was it really the 18th of July? But Sunday saw the balloons lift off. A good time was had by all.

More later!

So it never rains in Southern California? It's been raining nearly two days and that can only mean the desert wildflowers will be in full bloom soon. Cant' wait to see that, it'll be beautiful.

Never had a year in my life when I did not have a job! A job, a job to go to! A job! But now I am thinking I really like this. Gives me time to devote to the one thing I have always loved throughout my life- travel and travel writing! Now I can really do IT! I wonder if I'm any good? Everyone, tell me the truth. When I post and write, please tell me if I might have a future in this business!!!!!

What have I been up to? Well, let me see....I am again in Palm Springs, CA, my home - away from home. I have the most wonderful pictures and story to post about the culinary students and the Middle School students at the LaQuinta High School, California. EVERY school in the nation should be so lucky as to have a program and mentors like this! Just wait until I begin posting the whole story. I can't wait to take it back with me to Riverton and talk to the schools about it! Stay tuned for all that's coming up!
