This Veniliornis (sanguineas) woodpecker, the Blood-coloured Woodpecker, is one of the 4 of that subfamily found in Guyana and one of the 2 which are Guiana Shield endemics although this one does not occur further west than Guyana. While limited in range, it can be seen along the coast of Guyana. This stunning photo by Kester Clarke bears witness to its delightful appearance.

A young 'Flying Wolf', the Harpy eagle taking in his surroundings while we enjoy his regal beauty...Surama village North Rupununi.

The Giant Ameiva or South American Ground Lizard (Ameiva ameiva) displaying mating posturing and bright colouring...near Brokopondo Lake, Suriname.

Guianan Toucanet (Seleniders piperivora) as close as close can be....another easy to see and photograph specie in Suriname...bearing fruit trees not to be discounted! - near Brokopondo Lake, Suriname.

A pair of Sun Parakeet (Aratinga solstitialis) displaying mating behaviour...good news for the species!!!

Capybara are always nice to see...but when they begin to approach the water DON"T take your eyes off of them...or else they slip beneath the water and take a long dive...not to be seen again (maybe on the other side of the river if you're lucky)....watch how gracefully the world's largest rodent 'submarine' disappears from view ...without even a ripple!!!

It was really great watching this Guianan Cock-of-the-rock preening at Corkwood in October. This is after a harpy eagle scared it away but it came back after the harpy was chased out of the trees by a large troop (30+) of Black Spider-monkeys...with Steve Harford & Jean McKell....

"Can we walk at Kaieteur?" Yes you can.....here is a walking view of the 3rd viewing point, Rainbow View, where, if the sun is right, you can see that world-renowned Kaieteur rainbow....

World's Most Powerful Raptor....in Guyana on magnificent display!!!

Orinduik Falls on Guyana's border with Brazil in dry season....the background noise is the sounds of the cascading water...imagine this site in rainy season!!!
