Production completion in South Africa and Launch in May 2019. Crew arrival mid May to setup and provision the boat for delivery to the US.
Initial plan was to leave Cape Town on or shortly after May 20th 2019. Due to a paperwork delay the USCG registration delayed out departure by 10 days. Once we recieved the number we were ready to go. The owner of Xquisite Yachts, Tamas Hamor accompanied us for this first leg of the passage to get the crew up to speed on the boat systems.
The Sail Plan
Set sail from Cape Town, South Africa on May 30th 2019. We headed north up the African Coast to the Port of Walvis Bay, Namibia (4d). This was a scheduled maintenance stop before heading into the southern atlantic. All systems on the boat were rechecked and tweaked to optimal before we set off. We were experiencing issues with the watermaker on arrival that was believed fixed during this service stop.
From Port of Walvis Bay, Namibia we crossed to Jamestown Harbor, St Helena Island (4d). Upon departure from Namibia the watermaker failed to make drinkable water. While troubleshooting this issue we found that one of the membranes was defective (>2,000ppm). So we limped to St Helena on the one good membrane (120ppm).
From Jamestown Harbor, St Helena Island we crossed to Fernando de Noronha, Brazil (4d). We also had a crew change here, due to the initial delay time ran out for one of our crew and he needed to leave. He was replaced for the next leg of the passage. Note this was a change from the initial plan which would of had us arriving at Georgetown, Ascension Island. The change was due to the above time constraint.
From Fernando de Noronha, Brazil we cross to Grenada (3d). Another crew change here, Another of the original crew departs and is replaced. This is the final crew change for the passage with three crew for the remaining legs.
From Grenada we cross to George Town, Bahamas. This was a stop only to check in, so we we in and out in a few hours.
From George Town, Bahamas we cross to Staniel Cay, Bahamas (2d). This was the last stop before out final destination.
From Staniel Cay, Bahamas we cross to Wilmington, NC - The Final Destination. As everyone was extremely short on time we proceeded to our final stop. As there was no wind for most of this leg we did motor a lot on this leg.
We set off from Cape Town on the evening of May 30th and arrived in Wilmington, NC on the afternoon of July 31st.
A journey of just under 8,000nm.
.......... Plan Executed Successfully.
UPDATE: Hurricane Dorien gave a close pass to Wilmington and s/v Firefly sustained no damage with winds up to 75kt recorded onboard.
