Did you know that the geology of the North Fork area can influence the taste of the wine? There are several types of geology here. The growers naturally favor certain types because it’s easy to plant a vineyard on the landforms with gently sloping deposits. Consider this: a wine from grapes grown on clayey volcanic deposits (sourced by the lava flow outcrops atop Grand Mesa, in this video) may taste different than a wine made from the same type of grape that was grown on granitic soil. How can you tell which one is best for you?
