Namchi means Sky (Nam) High (Chi) in Bhutia. It commands panoramic view of the snow-capped mountains and vast stretches of valley. Namchi has the world's largest statue (at 118 feet) Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, on the Samdruptse hill. The Rock Garden, which displays a wide variety of Flora and is a local recreation and picnic spot, is just few kilometers up from the town on the way to Samdruptse. It offers a magnificent view of Mt. Kanchendzonga. Siddhesvara Dhaam at Namchi has a 108 feet statue of Lord Shiva and also houses the replicas of the four most revered dhams Jagannath, Dwarika, Rameshawaram, Badrinath. In addition it also has the replicas of the twelve jyothirlingas. Namchi also has a football stadium – the Baichung Stadium built by the Sikkim Government in honour of its most famous citizen, footballer Baichung Bhutia.
