Nome-ad WI to AK The motorcycle adventure of two Wisconsin natives (Chris Kruse, Justin Self) bringing their grandmother's ashes to Nome, AK.

June 20th is the departure date for Justin and Chris to head out from Wisconsin to Alaska by motorcycle. We'll be traveling through at least 10 states or Canadian provinces with a goal of reaching Deadhorse, AK. There will be a side trip by air to Nome and Teller, AK to bring our Gram, Ecu Oquilluk's ashes to the place of her birth. If you've gotten an invite to like this page, that's what it's ab

out. We hope that you'll follow along on the longest trip that either of us has ever done. 5 weeks, 9000 miles, 2 idiots.

Had to upload this Alaska trip snippet! Herding cows in Wyoming. It was a pivotal point for me because that day, the wind and fatigue kicked my ass physically and emotionally and I was ready to just head home. Much needed brevity thanks to the beef.

So the trip wasn't without some minor mechanical issues:

- My KLR: speedometer needle doesn't work, but easy replacement; rear brake pads worn to metal (don't buy cheap Volar brand pads) which lead to: low-side and broken right mirror; negative terminal on battery sheared off which lead to intermittent electrical connection

- Chris's KTM: rear sprocket ran to/beyond end of life (hooked badly), auxiliary (secondary) fuel tank venting/pressure issues, custom rear-turn signal sheared off

But, overall, nearly 11,000 miles both bikes did the trip pretty admirably! I'm ready for something different!

I probably should've changed my rear sprocket sooner! In my defense, it went from pretty good to complete s**te in less than 1000 miles.

When it rains, and it's always raining somewhere, the Dalton quickly turns to mud. Thankfully, it's not slippery.

Since we're coming home by a more direct route, we've done well over half the miles. For me, though, this is the half way point because every mile from here is towards home. - ck

These pics are from Anvil Mountain outside Nome. These are parabolic communication antennae used by the Air Force during the beginning of the cold war. They are the precursor to satellite communications. It's likely that this is where our grandpa worked when he met our grandmother in the 50s.

This is Mary's Igloo where our grandmother was born. The tribe moved West to Teller, AK for the newly created post office and schools at the beginning of the gold rush. It was a very surreal experience for both Justin and I.
