I’m currently a Junior at Illinois Wesleyan University working on a bachelors degree in Business Administration with a Psychology minor. I am on the varsity swim team at IWU and have been swimming competitively for about 8 years now. I have an 8-year old sister with Down Syndrom, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, and sensory issues. I began teaching swim lessons to children with Autism this past summer
. I taught 15 students last summer, all of whom I saw two or three times a week. It is very rewarding for me to see progress in my students and I feel like gaining confidence in the water really helps them with different aspects in their lives. While last summer I did have mostly special needs students I also welcome typical children. I teach 20 minute lessons and have a pay by the lesson approach to accommodate families going on vacation time and things like that. Even though I usually teach young children I am also willing to teach technique to any swimmers on swim teams like flipturns, starts, and any kind of strokework.
