Iloilo City ranked fourth among the richest cities outside Metro Manila for 2022 after recording an average Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per person of P306,444.
In the first-ever Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Iloilo City’s average GDP surpassed the country’s average of P178,751.
The per capita GDP is a measure of how much the economy grows per person in a particular area and is a measure of wealth or poverty.
Baguio was the wealthiest city outside Metro Manila, with a per capita GDP of P420,016 – more than twice the national average of P178,751.
Following Baguio City in terms of GDP per capita are Cagayan de Oro, which stood at P343,936, Lapu Lapu City at P313,039, and Iloilo City, and the province of Bataan at P297,930.
Rounding out the top 10 richest areas outside Metro Manila were Cebu City, the province of Laguna, Mandaue City, Davao City, and the province of Batanes. All had per capita GDP above the national average.
PSA’s latest findings only cover 82 provinces and 17 highly urbanized cities in 16 pilot regions across the country.
