Today we will explore Union Capital Territory - Delhi

Delhi is A City, A Union Territory and Capital of India.

Delhi, the capital of India has a strong historical background. It was ruled by some of the most powerful emperors in Indian history.
The history of the city is as old as the epic Mahabharata. The town was known as Indraprastha, where Pandavas used to live. In due course eight more cities came alive adjacent to Indraprastha: Lal Kot, Siri, Dinpanah, Quila Rai Pithora, Ferozabad, Jahanpanah, Tughlakabad and Shahjahanabad.
has been a witness to the political turmoil for over five centuries. It was ruled by the Mughals in succession to Khiljis and Tughlaqs.
In 1192 the legions of the Afghan warrior Muhammad of Ghori captured the Rajput town, and the Delhi Sultanate was established (1206). The invasion of Delhi by Timur in 1398 put an end to the sultanate; the Lodis, last of the Delhi sultans, gave way to Babur, who, after the battle of Panipat in 1526, founded the Mughal Empire. The early Mughal emperors favoured Agra as their capital, and Delhi became their permanent seat only after Shah Jahan built (1638) the walls of Old Delhi.
From Hindu Kings to Muslim Sultans, the reins of the city kept shifting from one ruler to another. The soils of the city smell of blood, sacrifices and love for the nation. The old 'Havelis' and edifices from the past stand silent but their silence also speaks volumes for their owners and people who lived here centuries back.
In the year 1803 AD, the city came under the British rule. In 1911, British shifted their capital from Calcutta to Delhi. It again became the center of all the governing activities. But, the city has the reputation of over throwing the occupants of its throne. It included the British and the current political parties that have had the honour of leading free India.
After independence in 1947, New Delhi was officially declared as the Capital of India.

Welcome to our series of Indian States and Union Territories.
Today we will explore a union territory which used to be two different union territory of India. i.e. Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (DNHDD).

Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu are four different districts and used to be two different union territories of India. On January 26th, 2020, this two union territory got merged with each other and become a new union teritory of India.
Daman and Diu were under Portuguese administration from the 1500s until they were annexed by India in 1961. Dadra and Nagar Haveli were under Portuguese administration between 1818 until they were captured by pro-India forces in 1954 and were formally annexed to India in 1961. Portugal officially recognised Indian sovereignty over the areas in 1974 following the Carnation revolution.
Dadra and Nagar Haveli was administered as a de-facto state, Free Dadra and Nagar Haveli, before becoming a union territory in 1961. Daman and Diu were administered as part of the union territory of Goa, Daman and Diu between 1962 and 1987, becoming a separate union territory when Goa was granted statehood.
In July 2019, the Government of India proposed merging the two territories into a single union territory in order to reduce duplication of services and reduce the cost of administration. Legislation to this effect, the and (Merger of Union territories) Act, 2019, was tabled in the Parliament of India on 26 November 2019 and assented to by the President of India on 9 December 2019. The two union territories had previously shared a common administrator and government officials. The town of Daman was chosen to be the capital of the new combined union territory. The appointed day for the act to come into effect was notified as 26 January 2020 by the Government of India.
and and and is composed of four distinct areas located in Western India. Dadra is a small enclave within the state of Gujarat. Nagar Haveli is a C shaped enclave located between the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra which contains a counter enclave of Gujarat around the village of Maghval. Daman is an enclave on the coast of Gujarat and Diu is an island off the coast of Gujarat.

Today we will explore the little france of India - Puducherry.

Puducherry, formerly known as Pondicherry, is one of the 8 union territories of India. was formed out of four territories of former French India, namely Pondichéry, Karikal, Mahé and Yanaon, excluding Chandernagore. It is named after the largest district, Puducherry.
French used to call it Pondicherry which means a new city or a new colony. It was known as and renamed as Puducherry in September, 2006.
The Union Territory of Puducherry consists of four small unconnected districts: Puducherry district (293 km2), Karaikal district (161 km2) and Yanam district (20 km2) on the Bay of Bengal and Mahé district (9 km2) on the Laccadive Sea, covering a total area of 492 km2. Puducherry and Karaikal have the largest areas and population, and are both enclaves of Tamil Nadu. Yanam and Mahé are enclaves of Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, respectively. Its population, as per the 2011 Census is approximately 13Lakhs.
We can reach Puducherry via flight or by train. It has an airport called Puducherry airport (Code - PNY). If there is no flight to Puducherry from your location then second nearest airport it Chennai airport which is 135km from Puducherry. If you want to come via train then it has Puducherry railway staion (Code - PDY).
Best time to visit Puducherry is between October to March when temperature in low otherwise in summer season temperature crosses to 40 degree.

Today we will explore Chandigarh - The City Beautiful

is A City, A District, A Union Territory and A Capital of two neighboring state and . Chandigarh is India's first designed city.

Chandigarh, was designed by the Swiss-French modernist architect, Le Corbusier and it was a master plan of American Architect Albert Mayer.

Chandigarh was the dream city of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. After the partition of India in 1947, the former British province of Punjab was divided into two provinces, East Punjab in India (mostly Sikhs and Hindus) and West Punjab in Pakistan (mostly Muslims). The Indian Punjab required a new capital because the former capital, Lahore, had become part of Pakistan after the partition. In 1949 the American planner and architect Albert Mayer was tasked to design a new city to be called "Chandigarh". The government carved out Chandigarh from about fifty Puadhi-speaking villages in the then-state of East Punjab, India. Shimla was the temporary capital of East Punjab until Chandigarh was completed in 1960.

Le Corbusier designed many administration buildings, including the High Court, the Palace of Assembly, and the Secretariat Building. Le Corbusier also designed the general layout of the city, dividing it into sectors. Chandigarh hosts the largest of Le Corbusier's many Open Hand sculptures, standing 26 metres high. The Open Hand (La Main Ouverte) is a recurring motif in Le Corbusier's architecture, a sign for him of "peace and reconciliation. It is open to give and open to receive." It represents what Le Corbusier called the "Second Machine Age". Two of the six monuments planned in the Capitol Complex which has the High Court, the Assembly and the Secretariat, remain incomplete. These include Geometric Hill and Martyrs Memorial; drawings were made, and they were begun in 1956, but they were never completed.

Chandigarh is just 260km away from the Capital city New Delhi so reaching to Chandigarh is not at all difficult. Chandigarh has one international airport and one railway station.
Best time to come to Chandigarh is from October to March when weather is favorable for city tour.

Today, we will explore Union Territory Lakshadweep closely.

is a tropical archipelago of 36 atolls and coral reefs in the Laccadive Sea, off the coast of Kerala, India. Not all of the islands are inhabited, and only a few are open to visitors (permits required). Kavaratti, one of the more developed islands, is home to dozens of mosques, including the ornately decorated Ujra Mosque, as well as Kavaratti Aquarium, showcasing regional fish, shark and coral species.

Lakshadweep is an union territory and is being administerd by the Central Gorvernment of India. Lakshadweep is the smallest union terrtory with the area of 32 sq km and having population of approximately 65,000. Population wise also Lakshadweep is the smallest union territory. With 92% of literacy rate Lakshadweep is India's second most literate state after Kerala. It has approximately 97% population of Muslim community and so the main festivals are Eid and Moharram.

Best time to visit Lakshadweep is from October to May when there is no rain because in rainy season sea waves becomes more rough which is not favorable for water sports.

Bihar Sharif is the headquarters of Nalanda district and the fifth-largest sub-metropolitan area in the eastern Indian state of Bihar. It's name is a combination of two words: Bihar, derived from vihara (meaning Buddhist monastery), also the name of the state; and Sharif, referring to the resting place of the Sufi saint Makhdoom Sharfuddin Ahmed Yahya Maneri. The city is a hub of education and trade in southern Bihar, and the economy centers around agriculture supplemented by tourism, the education sector and household manufacturing. The ruins of the ancient Nalanda Mahavihara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are located near the city.
