Team Marco Yolo - Rickshaw Run January 2015 We, Mike Abdul, Brett Harmon and Brendan Sund will embark on a 1600 mile adventure up the west coast Basically, it's a glorified lawnmower with bench seating.

The Rickshaw Run is an entirely unsupported adventure across a large portion of the India subcontinent in search of misadventure. Participants are expected to complete the 3500km trek in a wholly inadequate auto rickshaw with three wheels and roughly 7 horsepower. The January 2015 edition of the Rickshaw Run will take us from near the southern tip of India, in Cochin, up the west coast to Jaisalme

r. Along the way, we will explore Mumbai, Goa, and any other interesting locale we happen upon. Besides taking part in a great adventure through some of the most diverse and beautiful lands in the world, we will be raising funds for Cool Earth, a UK Based charity that buys and protects pieces of rainforest acre by acre to prevent more trees from being turned into speeding tickets and toilet paper. As with most things we do, we've jumped into this and paid a registration fee without giving it much thought. Hell, we agreed to this trip by signing a contract on a bar napkin. Next, we must obtain airfare, secure visas, locate organizations that may want to support us in any way, and finally raise as much money as possible so that we can make it rain showers of dollars/pounds/euros upon the tropical rainforests of world. This is a work in progress, so stay tuned for an official website and info regarding fundraising parties and other cool things like that. For now, check out a brief guide to the Rickshaw Run: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLOQQ7ge_0Q

We've just started to capture and sort through the 80 gb of footage from the trip. Here's an unedited clip from Day 2 while driving through Dhimbam Ghat Tiger Reserve and trying to not get eaten while stuck in traffic. Cameos by Team Ladies' Luck and Rich Homie Quan.

Currently logging 80 gb of footage. This is a clip from the second day of driving, as we tried to make it through Dhimbam Ghat Tiger Reserve without breaking...

After the Rickshaw Run, Team Marco Yolo spent some time in Jaisalmer before getting on an 18 hour train to Delhi. During that ride, Mike was accidentally left in Jaipur for some hours without phone, jacket, or passport. It all worked out.

Then, after a bit of hanging out in Delhi, Brett and Mike went on a vacation within a vacation to Bangkok. Brendan's whereabouts are currently in question.

After two weeks of driving, tonight we reached the finish line. Kochi to Jaisalmer: a total of 2756 kilometers, or 1713 miles. That's about the same distance as Chicago to Las Vegas.

Also, we picked up a new team member on the second to last day: Jasmine the camel skull. You can see her burning as tribute in the photos.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us along the way. There are way more pictures and videos to come, and we still have ten more days in India to do whatever we feel like.

We are taking a day break in Udaipur, Rajasthan. This is unquestionably the most beautiful city we've been through so far. Loads of rooftop restaurants and bars, a palace in the middle of the lake, narrow hilly streets. Very charming. There are a bunch of other Rickshaw Run teams here who have all agreed that this is a great place to relax before the final 500km push to the finish line.

Itinerary since last update:

Day 5: Murudeshwar to Goa

Attended child's birthday party at beautiful beach-side homestay. Hurried to Goa to enjoy a day and a half vacation within a vacation. Met with a bunch of other teams in the Goan town of Calangute, which is basically the Venice Beach of India.

Day 6: Goa

Rest day in Goa. Beaches, fish, barber shops. Beers, fire spinning, lasers. Massages, swimming pool, fur hats and gloves. Mike had a job interview via video conference with Washington DC, which he conducted poolside on account of technical difficulties.

Drank 45 beers and 9 vodkas on the beach with a few other teams Total bill was roughly 80 dollars.

Day 7: Goa to Chiplun

Broke down somehow. Otherwise unremarkable.

Day 8: Chiplun to Mumbai

Drank chai at a roadside tea shack while a mechanic fixed and tuned up the rickshaw for $4. Drove into Mumbai at rush hour, losing our shark fin in the process. Absolute pandemonium unlike anything in America. Had a generous fellow Runner from Norway let us park at his Mumbai apartment. Visited Leopold Cafe, one of the sites of the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Day 9: Mumbai to Daman

Drove into small autonomous state of Daman & Diu, which sits within the dry state of Gujarat. Stayed in the small beach town of Daman where we met with a couple other teams and enjoyed beer and rum and some dingy but charming bars.

Day 10: Daman to Anand

We've seen and done a lot this last week. Day 10 was our first day of the trip without breaking down somehow. Drove 300 km on the best roads so far and treated ourselves to McDonald's and Subway. Sheared off a hubcap trying to squeeze the rickshaw (now known as Young Ganjeezy) through the motorcycle lane at a toll booth. Ended the day by accidentally driving on an expressway that prohibits use by rickshaws. Hauled ass and didn't die or get in trouble with the police.

End of day 4, we are in a small beach town called Murudeshwar. Had some muffler issues yesterday, causing us to get a late start out of Mysore. We ended up in a hilly town called Madikeri. Upon leaving there early morning, we drove through some misty mountain roads en route to our eventual landing spot on the beach.

Hey everyone, so far we have made it to Mysore in the state of Karnataka. Currently enjoying well deserved beers on a rooftop across the street from Mysore Palace. Today, the rickshaw somehow scaled a mountain via a road with 27 switchbacks that cut through a tiger reserve where it is illegal to stop on the roadside due to danger of tiger mauling. Pretty chill.

Check out the photos. It's a shame they can't reeeally do justice to some of the things we've seen already.

Happy New Year from Team Marco Yolo! It's already been 2015 over here for 9 hours, and we rang in the new year properly by dancing at an island palace and then leading a party boat full of people in a "Bohemian Rhapsody" sing along, followed by piloting said boat. Those are but a few highlights from an excellent evening. More highlights to come, as we kick off the Rickshaw Run in an hour and a half. 'Til next time.

Just a friendly Monday reminder! We're headed to India in 19 days, and we'll still be raising money for Cool Earth until we cross the finish line next month. Donations through JustGiving (follow the link) go directly to the charity and come with a receipt for tax deductibility. Made too much money this year and need to write off some income to land yourself in a lower tax bracket? Look no further!

Help Marco raise money for this great cause.
