A WASP WAIST
Princess Sissi (or better to say “Sisi”) was obsessed with her beauty. Aware of the impact her slim and slender appearance had, Elizabeth sought to accentuate her figure even more. Fearing that her clothes were not tight enough and prone to forming unwelcome creases, she insisted that they be sewn directly onto her. Since she had to change her clothes frequently, this process could be repeated several times in a single day, and the simple act of fastening the corset could take up to an hour. In her later years, to maintain her slim hips, she slept in tightly fitted wet clothes. She also bathed in olive oil to keep her skin soft. Sissi was willing to make any sacrifice to maintain her wasp waist. She adhered to increasingly strict diets, to the point of consuming, as her niece Maria Luisa Larisch-Wallersee reported, “a dreadful mixture of five or six egg whites with salt.” During her travels, this diet remained unchanged down to the smallest details. Since Sissi did not want to forgo fresh milk even during long sea voyages, her favorite goat and cows were also brought on board.

Now, as slim and elegant as when she was alive, she watches people strolling along, enjoying the breeze on the shores of the lake. I am sure she dreams of entering every single chocolate shop and tasting all the bonbons and pralines, slowly, savoring each bite.
Ah, Sissi, if only you knew what you missed!

IT’S ALL ABOUT A SLOWER PACE
Geneva is a city of many facets. In Geneva, the clocks are punctual, and the trains are on time. There is a great Hadron Collider here that performs incredible feats with molecules far below the earth.
But Geneva is also known for having the longest bench in the world and for its love of cycling around the city. The food is spectacular, and it’s no wonder considering Switzerland’s convenient location between France, Italy, and Germany. We learned to cook from the Italians, drink wine from the French, and enjoy beer in quaint pubs from the Germans.
We also produce excellent wine, with vineyards gently lining the shores of the lake. And last but not least, we create the most divine chocolate in the world in small, exclusive shops. These are the same shops frequented by the Kennedy family, the Emperor of Japan, and Winston Churchill.
If you are passing through Geneva, join us to taste the chocolate that has enchanted the world and to discover the quiet, lesser-known side of the city.

BETTER TOGETHER
Raspberries have a sweet flavour with a unique tangy undertone and a deep complexity. They aren't deliciously sweet and simple as cherries; raspberries have an assertive flavour on their own. Chocolate is temperamental, its soft bitterness is complex and appealing. Like any paramour partnership, each ingredient brings something unique and yet retains its distinctive character even as it blends with the other ingredients. Raspberries are juicy, chocolate is silky. Both have a little sexy undertone that makes them irresistible and charming. Together they make a glorious bite. May they live happily ever after.

REFINE YOUR PALATE
When you hear about training, it’s often linked to runners or skiers, not necessarily your taste buds.
Yet, training your palate is an artful, subtle, and highly personal experience, but it's an investment worth making. Even a mere 5% improvement in flavor appreciation can significantly enhance a lifetime of enjoyment.
Flavour comprises a delicate balance of sweet, sour, bitter, umami, and salty tastes. Aromas add even more diversity, offering a spectrum broader than a rainbow. Sounds and physical sensations—texture, tannins, spiciness—layer on complexity.

As you expand your culinary horizons, your taste buds awaken to nuances previously unnoticed. Imagine savoring the umami of a praline infused with Tabasco or discovering the countless facets of bitterness in a dark chocolate ganache.
No two individuals experience identical smells or tastes.
Once you've developed an appreciation for flavours, why would you ever revert?
So, stretch your taste buds and challenge them with new experiences.
Join Local Flavours Chocolate Tours: we don't offer you a plate of chocolate, we offer you a complete and unforgettable sensorial experience.

MONT BLANC
30 MILLION YEARS AGO
It is believed that around 30 m years ago, the Alps were formed due to the collision of the Asian and African tectonic plates. This led to the emergence of Mont Blanc from deep within the ocean along with several other peaks.

THE INHABITANTS
The most iconic mammals living on the Mont Blanc are the majestic Alpine ibex and agile chamois. But they are in good company: marmots, snowshoe hares, deers, roe deers, red squirrels, alpine ptarmigans, black grouses, red foxes, wild boars, European hedgehogs, European moles, Alpine water shrews.

EVERY COUPLE OF YEARS
Usually, the height of Mont Blanc is measured every couple of years as climate change and global warming have been known to play a pivotal role in the constant fluctuation in the height of the peak.

THE ROUTE
The Walker’s Haute Routelinks Mont Blanc with another mighty European summit, the Matterhorn, and offers a thrilling and picturesque hike (or ski).

THE FASTEST
Swiss climber Pierre-André Gobet climbed Mont Blanc in a round trip from Chamonix in 5 hours, 10 minutes, and 14 seconds in 1990. On July 11, 2013, Basque speed climber and runner Kilian Jornet did the ascent and descent in just 4 hours 57 minutes 40 seconds.

THE YOUNGEST
The youngest person in history to climb Mont Blanc is 10-year-old Asher Silver, from the UK, who achieved this feat in 2009.

THE COLDEST
The lowest recorded temperature on Mont Blanc is -43°C, set in January 1893.

NOT AS EASY AS A PIECE OF CAKE
Although Mont Blanc's climb is considered technically easy, undertaking the task eventually turns out to be pretty arduous. It is believed by many that climbing Mont Blanc is much more difficult than climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua as well.

THE PEN
Although Montblanc is a German company, it's French name means 'white mountain', referring to the Mont Blanc mountain massif located in the Alps. Because of this, all Meisterstück pens have the number '4810' engraved on the nib to represent the height of the Mont Blanc mountain, while the white snow-cap, symbolises the peak of the mountain with its six glacier valleys.

ONLY ONE HOUR
Geneva is just one hour away from Mont Blanc. If you are in Geneva don't miss the opportunity to pay a visit to Mont Blanc. Are you hiking in the Alps? Add Local Flavours Tours to your bucket list: we will guide you on a discovery of Geneva while tasting the best Swiss artisanal chocolate on our Chocolate Flavours Tours.

BRING ME THE SUNFLOWER CRAZY WITH LIGHT
An Italian poet, Eugenio Montale, wrote:
“Bring me the plant that leads
where blond transparencies rise
where life dissolves like essence;
bring me the sunflower crazy with light”
In summer, sunflowers shine with their cheerful faces, gentle giants that dutifully turn toward the sun, inebriated by its light. Originally from America, they were discovered in Peru by Francisco Pizarro’s brother, who brought their seeds to Spain as a gift for King Philip II. Among the Incas, sunflowers symbolized sovereignty: the earthly embodiment of the divine Sun, accompanied in rituals by warriors and nobles holding golden sunflowers. While we can’t offer you golden sunflowers, we have something even better: chocolate sunflowers whose petals combine all the flavors of summer—refreshing grapefruit, the Asian touch of combawa, the delicacy of lime, and the elegant note of lemon basil, as gentle as a caress.
The center of praline-coated sunflower seeds is a delight!

WANT TO TAKE A “NAPS”?
Neapolitans, also known as Napolitains or Naps, are individually wrapped square or rectangular pieces of chocolate, thin and elegant, in assorted flavors.
They are often served alongside a cup of coffee, adding a sweet note to the drink. They are also a perfect after dinner, a little treat to end the meal in style.
The story of these chocolates takes us back to the year 1819. They were created as a gift for Marie-Caroline de Bourbon, a princess originally from Naples. The giver of this sweet present was Louis XVIII. Each chocolate was wrapped individually, and the packaging featured a view of Naples, a nod to the princess's origins. This is how they came to be known as **Neapolitans**, a name that carries with it a rich history and a taste of Naples. So, the next time you savor a Neapolitan, remember, you're not just enjoying a piece of chocolate, but a piece of history too.

GENEVA UNDER THE SKIN
The first best way to explore a city is the old slow, no-tech fashioned way: one step at a time.
Walking it's the best way to interact with a place and its people.
Strolling through a new city for miles allows you to grasp the essence of its space – from the shapes and hues of buildings to the sound of the streets, or observing the everyday lives of its people.
Walking makes cities human.

The second-best way to explore a city is through its culinary landscape.
From Cape Town to Tokyo, the cuisine and flavours mirror the people who savour them; there's no swifter or more profound way to comprehend a destination than through its gastronomy. Switzerland is no exception.
When in Rome do as romans do.
When in Switzerland taste Pavés de Genève, Carac, fondue au chocolat, Meringues et crème double de la Gruyère.
Indulge in the ultimate Swiss melt-in-the-mouth experience.

COULD YOU BEE LOVE, AND BEE LOVED?
Hey travelers looking for a phantasmagorical experience for your taste buds!
It’s !
Egyptians used honey as medicine, for rituals, and even as currency. They valued it so much they would fill up ceramic vases and place them in the Pharaoh’s tombs for the afterlife. When Tutankhamun’s tomb was discovered, researchers found perfectly preserved crystalized honey over 3500 years old.

In ancient Greece, the most famous production center of thyme honey – the finest variety – was Athens. Beehives dating to the mid-sixth century BCE were found in the center of the city. Ancient writers even attributed supernatural qualities to Attic honey, believing it could bring long life. Hippocrates recommended honey as a treatment for many other conditions, including baldness, contraception, wounds, and eye diseases.

The Romans imported large quantities of honey from all over the empire but particularly from Malta. The island is a large producer of honey and in fact, Malta or – Melitē means Sweet Honey.
Honey was so important for Romans that they had a goddess for bees and honey. “Mellona” was the goddess of bees and beekeeping. According to Cicero if a swarm of bees, entered the temple, he foresaw a threat to the freedom of the republic, due to the monarchical organization of bees.
Emperor Ottaviano Augusto to people who asked him what was his longevity secret always answered: “Honey inside and oil outside”.

Unlike the ancient Greeks, we cannot promise to cure baldness. But we can assure you that during the tour you will have the opportunity to taste the best honey-based creations of Geneva's maître chocolatiers. What about a Madagascar grand cru cocoa combined with silky Swiss milk, cream, and butter with a delicious dose of multi-flower raw local honey? Indulge in the ultimate melt-in-the-mouth experience. Almost too sweet for the bees 😊

We take this opportunity to remember that 1 million flowers and 50,000 bees are needed to produce 1 kg of honey. It is our duty and our interest to protect and respect bees and the biodiversity that guarantees their (and our) survival.

THE MORE DELICATELY, THE MORE SUAVELY
A better name could not have been found for basil, this vegetable garden herb that is elegant in its simplicity and with its intense scent: in fact, the word ‘basil’ comes from the Greek word ‘basilikos,’ which means ‘royal.’ In botany, it is called Ocimum basilicum, where the first term signifies ‘fragrance.’ In popular tradition, basil is believed to purify the air from malevolent spirits, so it is often kept on windowsills. Its presence is also thought to have a similar effect, keeping away snakes, scorpions, and mosquitoes.
In short, basil is a magical plant that can lose its effects if touched or cut with iron, as reported by the Latin scholar Pliny. It should be harvested for magical practices using the left hand and during the crescent moon. Furthermore, a twig of basil allows you to understand if a person is a liar: it was believed that it was enough to place a twig on his body while he sleeps; if the suspicion is well-founded, the leaves will wilt in a very short time.
To be honest, we may not be able to ward off demons and mosquitoes with basil, but we offer you the opportunity to enjoy chocolate infused with the intense and pleasant flavor of basil.
Join Local Flavours Tours to savour the best artisan Swiss chocolate: taste the pralines with basil and lime we selected for the tour and thank us later :)

GENEVA’S FABULOUS GARDENS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM
May has arrived with its cloak of flowers! Did you know that there are 50 parks and 310 gardens in Geneva? The city is an explosion of azaleas, rhododendrons, tulips and elegant horse chestnuts in bloom. It is that time of year when heaven is on earth, and there is no greater subtle pleasure than lazing on the grass, watching the clouds drift away. Here are some of the best spots to revel in the joys of spring:
• Botanical Garden: A gem for nature enthusiasts, the Botanical Garden features diverse plant collections, greenhouses, and peaceful paths. It’s a serene escape within the heart of the city. The garden houses over 6 million plants and it features 120,000 species

• Parc des Bastions: This isn't just a park; it's a cultural nexus blending history, art, and natural beauty. Situated in the heart of Geneva, Parc des Bastions is a picturesque promenade lined with trees, featuring some of Geneva's well-known attractions. Its shaded alleys are lined with monuments, some of which are among the most beautiful in the city: notably the famous Reformers' Wall and the giant chess boards.
• Parc des Eaux-Vives: Nestled along the lake, the park dates back to the 16th century and the legendary property within the park has been standing since 1750. As you ex-plore the Parc des Eaux-Vives, you'll encounter centuries-old sequoias, a lush rhodo-dendron massif, and a charming little cascade.
• Parc La Grange is Geneva's largest park: it enchants visitors with its majestic trees, sweeping vistas, and diverse atmospheres—a favored destination for leisurely strolls. Nestled between the Eaux-Vives district and Parc des Eaux-Vives, Parc La Grange has a rich past: Evidence of human presence dating back to the Neolithic period can be found here. Two menhirs lie in the upper reaches of the park, near the ruins of the villa once owned by the Roman official Titus Fronto.
