Hi all! Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. Well, back to Dorian. After causing devastation in the Bahamas, it has weakened slightly and is turning slowly now to the North. It is expected to hug the coast of FL, GA, SC and NC, potentially making landfall in NC. We are starting to see storms and rain from the feeder bands, but any major impact in our area now is far less likely.

More on Hurricane Dorian. It looks like the forecast has it slowing down, which means more rain, and of course a later impact to the East Coast and then our area. It also is showing a little higher intensity from the previous forecast. It's still too early to specify the actual landfall location, and our area's impact, but we will most likely be affected by strong winds and rain whatever the path will be.

Tropical Update:
Hi folks! Well Dorian is already a Hurricane and is forecast to make landfall along the Eastern coast of Florida early Monday morning. It is expected to be a Category 3 Hurricane, with winds of 115 mph. We will be impacted by this storm, with potentially heavy rain, and strong winds. This doesn't look to be a storm surge event for our area, unless it makes a turn across the state and tracks into the gulf. Still too early for too many details, but right now all the models have it heading towards Florida as a major hurricane.

19/12/2018

Hi folks, well it's going to be a wet, windy, and stormy end to the week. Showers are just starting to move in from the south western Gulf, and this is just the start of a rough couple of days. We can expect high winds, storms, and heavy rain with potential flooding, especially tomorrow, and into Friday. Things should start to look brighter on Saturday, and through Sunday.

It's the busiest time of Hurricane Season, and a year ago that many of us evacuated when Irma hit Florida. We have 3 named systems out there now, including of course Hurricane Florence, which is forecast to make landfall in North Carolina Friday lunchtime. Florence will bring large storm-surge, strong winds, and torrential rain to the area. Those in it's path should heed warnings and evacuations. Florida seems safe right now, but as I mentioned, a busy time, so we will be keeping our eyes on the tropics.

18/06/2018

Hi folks, a line of storms pretty much all down the Suncoast Parkway and Veterans heading west to the coast. Looks like it's getting less intense as the sun goes down, but be prepared.
Edited: take back what I said about getting less intense. There are strong storms embedded in this line.

Good Morning. Well we do have our first named storm of the season - Alberto. It's track is taking it slowly into the Gulf, towards Mobile. Since we are on the eastern side of the storm we will still be affected by rain all weekend and into next week. It looks like we may stay relatively dry until later this afternoon, when we will start to see storms and bands of rain coming through our area. There is still a chance of flooding, since the rain will continue until Wednesday next week.

Hi Folks! I wish I had some good news for this Memorial Day weekend, but ......it looks more likely that a Tropical Storm is going to be developing tomorrow and slowly heading North into the Gulf. Regardless of it's exact path, we are on the rainy and windy side, so we can expect heavy rain, thunderstorms, and possible storm surge. If this becomes the first named-storm, it will Alberto. We will start seeing some scattered storms this afternoon, but the bulk of the rain will be starting Saturday and continuing over the weekend to Monday.

14/05/2018

Hi folks, well it's very wet out there today and will continue to be for the rest of the week. We are watching a disturbance in the Gulf that may possibly develop into a tropical system later this week. Whatever happens with the system, we will get plenty of rain all week. An estimated 2-4 inches is expected from tomorrow until the weekend, on top of the rain we are getting today. There is a potential for localized flooding. We will keep updating regularly this week with any changes.

15/04/2018

A wild and wet end to the weekend. A strong line of storms is heading into our area from the Gulf, ahead of a cold front. There is potential for severe weather, including thunderstorms and gusty winds, starting around 1pm. The showers should be clearing by the early evening.

Hi folks! It's going to be a wet and stormy day today, with a 2-4 inches of rain possible. Storms have passed through our Northern counties and spreading South into the Tampa Bay area. There will continue to be showers during the afternoon, and perhaps another stormy set up at the end of the day. Wednesday should be a dry day, after the storms have moved out later tonight.

Happy New Year to a cold and for some, a true wintry week!
The line between snow/sleet and rain is north of Levy County, so we should not see anything except cold rain.
The cold windy rain we are now seeing across our area should be over by around Midday, but we will stay cold. We can expect cold temps into the weekend, with highs in the 50s, and lows in the high 30s, until Sunday, when it starts to warm up to normal levels.

Hurricane Update:
Hi folks, we will post updates as often as we can, but we had to evacuate so have limited access now.
The latest path has shifted West for sure, which is not good for our area. The latest advisory is shown below. If you are in mandatory evacuation zones, it is probably a good time to leave if you haven't already. Irma 'could' get a little ragged as it passes over Cuba, but it will still be a powerful hurricane when it reaches Florida. Let's be very careful out there.

Hurricane Irma Update:
Hi folks, the last couple of updates on the forecast track of Irma, is good news for our area. The models all focus it's path to be the East Coast of Florida making landfall around the Miami area Sunday morning. BUT ....we are still in the cone of uncertainty (see image below), which means it is still possible that Irma does not make the turn as expected, and heads to our coast. Be prepared, and be safe.

Hurricane Irma Update:
Irma is still a major Category 5 Hurricane and heading West toward the Florida Peninsular.
The latest forecast models shown below, trend toward Irma tracking up the East coast of Florida. This is better news for our area, but of course it will still cause much damage to wherever it makes landfall, and beyond.
It is important to remember that we are still 4 days away from Irma reaching Florida, and it's exact track could change over the next few days. We should all be prepared for Irma's impact, sometime on Sunday through Monday. Let's stay safe!

Hi folks, Hurricane Irma is starting to become a real threat to Florida now. Irma is a Major Category 4 Hurricane, and slowly moving to the West toward Florida, where it is expected to start a move to the North, over the Florida Peninsula. Florida will start feeling the impact of Irma this weekend, when it is forecast to be in our area on Sunday/Monday. It is still too early to predict anything with certainty yet, but it looks like we will be affected in one way or another. This is the time to get your hurricane plans in order, and stay safe.

25/08/2017

Hi folks! Not looking good for Texas this weekend, as Hurricane Harvey strengthens to Category 2, with winds expected to increase to 120mph before landfall. Catastrophic flooding is expected along the Texas coast, with strong winds and a large storm surge. Our thoughts are with everyone in the Texas area this weekend!
Back to Florida, we still have a low pressure system wobbling off the south west coast, which will very slowly head north east across the state. The bulk of the rain should remain south of I-4, but we should expect more rain and storms than the usual ones created by the sea breeze. It will be a wet weekend for most of Florida. We will post updates this weekend as necessary.

Tropical Update: Tropical Storm Emily is moving slowly east across the Tampa Bay and Sarasota areas. You can see from the satellite image that most of the rainfall is to our south and east, but folks in these areas should watch for flooding. This system is forecast to move slowly off to our east over the next 24-48 hours.

TROPICAL UPDATE: Well, it looks like Tropical Cyclone #3 is heading for Texas and Louisiana, but our area will see some storms and showers associated with the system at least for today. More good news is that Tropical Storm Bret is expected to fade away over the next couple of days as it moves in toward the South of Jamaica, so should be little concern to us.

19/06/2017

Hi Folks! Well, this week we are monitoring TWO tropical systems. The system in the Gulf already is most likely going to be a Tropical Storm at best, and make landfall somewhere on the Texas coast Wed/Thu this week. The other system in the Atlantic may develop more, but it's too far out to make any educated predictions quite yet!

01/06/2017

Happy Thursday! We are still short of rain this year, but our rain chances do increase over the next couple of days. We can expect afternoon and evening showers, mostly inland, but possibly moving back to the west when the sea breezes calm. Higher storm chances tomorrow and Saturday . Highs in the low-mid 90's today, and high 80's over the weekend.

24/05/2017

Hi, a lot of action coming our way over the next several hours. We have a Hazardous Weather Outlook, and our Northern Counties are under a Tornado Watch. I will post the text below. Expect the rain and storms to start over the next few hours.

Hi Folks! A gloomy start to the weekend for a lot of us. There is a line of storms and showers in the Gulf to our north, which will be pushing south east into our area today. Expect storms, and rain showers starting in our northern counties (Hernando County north) in the next hour or so, and then over lunch and the afternoon hours around the Clearwater/Tampa areas. Rain should clear the area in the evening, leaving us dry and partly cloudy for Mother's Day on Sunday.

04/05/2017

Happy Thursday! Be prepared for a wet afternoon today. A line of showers and storms is expected to pass through our area starting early this afternoon, and clearing tonight. The good news is that dry air, and cooler temperatures are behind the front. Highs will be below average on Friday and Saturday, reaching only the high 70's to 80. Sunday will be the start of a warm up again, but dry weather expected for a while ...after today.

22/02/2017

Hi folks, a wet start for all of us this Wednesday morning! A low pressure system will track across Florida today, bringing rain showers and potential thunderstorms into our area for most of the day. The rain should start leaving our area in the afternoon/evening, but there is a high chance for rain, for most of Wednesday. The rest of the week should be dry, with a cold front coming through Saturday night - this front should be a dry event, so a good weekend in store.

Hi folks! Some weather moving in from the Gulf today. We can expect some storms, rain, and gusty conditions, starting within the next couple of hours. We should get some clearer skies by the evening, but it looks like the next few hours will be wet for most of us.

15/02/2017

Hi, we currently have a cold front crossing the Gulf, heading our way. We can expect some showers and thunderstorms ahead of the front, and some breezy conditions. We estimate the showers affecting our northern counties around lunch time, and heading into the Tampa area in the early afternoon. Should get clear and dry by the evening hours.

08/02/2017

Good evening folks. We have a line of storms heading South East towards the Nature Coast tonight. It should start to dissipate as it moves South to the Tampa Bay area, but it could bring some heavy rain and strong winds to Northern Pinellas, Hernando, and Citrus Counties. We expect the action to begin around 10:30pm - 11:00pm tonight.
