PHILLIP STOCKWELL

Known affectionately as "Bunter", Phillip was the longest serving ex-WA employee at the time of his death from cancer in 2014 (51 years). After the demise of WA, he continued to work for Shearings and was 66 when he died. Starting in 1963 as apprentice to Eric Stockwell, he became a very skilled fitter and popular employee. He is sorely missed by family and colleagues.

BRIAN PARKIN

Brian worked in the Licensing Department in the period leading up to the abolition of the need to hold licences to operate Excursions and Tours and Express Services(1980). Every pick up and every destination had to be fought for in the Traffic Courts before the Traffic Commisioners. Companies had to show a demand for new services and rivals would try to prevent you from winning new routes. Even contracts had to be registered and fares published and approved. It was a slow and laborious process and Brian was one of WA's specialists. He left WA when the job ended and went to work for National at Liversedge. A likeable, knowledgeable and keen bus preservationist, he part owned an old Leeds Regent III, Brian died on January 4th afer collapsing at home. He was 81.
