Others are addicted to the big animal excitement. Many are attracted to the history and archeology that links us with the past. All of us have at one point or another experienced a little anxiety or perhaps full fledged fear caused by unexpected predator action, fickle Mother Nature, disorientation in a bad place, or some kind of equipment failure. Yet, there is a point that every experienced dive

r reaches when the strangeness of the equipment passes, the experience of breathing underwater becomes merely second nature, and the joy of weightlessness is completely natural. At this point for many a change occurs; subtle at first, but profound nonetheless. Some describe it as spiritual, others a zen, but it is a synthesis of opposing experiences; peace fused with excitement, the familiar melded with wonder, things of the Earth intermixed with creatures and landscapes from a distant planet. This is the experience we call Blue Water Zen.
