Canterbury Historical Tours
Canterbury Historical Tours takes you back in time to the early years of the settlement of the Canterbury area, from its indigenous days through to the iconic homes, shops, gardens, buildings and of course, Maling Rd.
This tour explores the key people, the famous people from its past, and its characters, such as Canterbury Jack, the briquette man and the "Old Russian" of the 1950s.
Your tour guide was born and bred in the suburb, and is on the committee of the Canterbury History Group, writes its newsletter, is the Canterbury FC historian, the Canterbury Scout Group historian and has done historic research for the Camberwell High School Ex Students Society. He is the founder and moderator of the Canterbury History Group page, Canterbury History, Today & Tomorrow, and has written many books on local history and short stories. Your tour guide is an experienced public speaker, and his passion for Canterbury's history makes this a labour of love.
Tours are Mondays 9 30 am, and 6 30 pm and are an easy walk of 2 hrs, commencing and returning near the train station.
