The Taiwan government through its Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA) on Tuesday, June 4, announced the extension of visa-free entry policy to nationals of Thailand, Brunei and the Philippines until the year 2025.
The visa-free privilege was initially to expire on July 31, 2023 but was extended supposedly until July 31, 2024.
This means Filipinos may still enjoy entry to the island nation without a visa for up to 14 days.
Citing a meeting convened by Taiwanโs Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in April, BOCA said relevant government agencies in the island nation discussed ways to further improve visa measures for nationals of its New Southbound Policy (NSP) partner countries traveling to Taiwan.
โAfter evaluating the effectiveness of the above measures over the past years, participating agencies decided to extend the trial visa-free entry program for one year for nationals of Thailand, Brunei, and the Philippines from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025,โ BOCA posted on its website on Tuesday, June 4.
โIn addition, the Project for Simplifying Visa Regulations for High-end Group Tourists from Southeast Asian Countries will be extended for a further year through December 31, 2025, and the conditional visa-free entry through the TAC scheme will remain in place,โ it added.
The agency said MOFA is continuously working โto review and fine-tune visa policiesโ in order to strengthen bilateral exchanges and attract more visitors while ensuring border and public security.
โMOFA will also continue to communicate with the governments of related countries to enhance visa treatment for Taiwan nationals and make their overseas travel more convenient,โ the agency concluded. - MNP
