Many asking how they can help our community here are directions if available this week. Thank you in advance.
From a friend:
“What can I do to help the people of Sulphur after that terrible tornado? I want to go over and help!”
Here’s what you can do:
If you have a group of folks that wants to help with cleanup at this stage, then grab a pair of leather work gloves, lace up your work boots, & head over to the Murray County Expo Center together.
You will sign in there & get a sticker. That will enable you to go into the residential “disaster zone”.
Simply find a resident that needs help in that area, and ask if you can help. At this point it’s mostly sawing up & dragging off logs and branches, and picking up structural debris.
The Emergency Response Coordinator has requested to hold back on bringing in large equipment yet (tractors, dump trailers, etc.) simply because there is so much already here that it’s beginning to clog everything up.
On that note, if you DO bring over a crew of folks to work, try to car pool as much as possible. Extra vehicles parked on the side just get in the way of work crews. (If you are traveling from Tulsa, or OKC--or meeting others out of town, please get a group together and carpool. )
City curfew is in force from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am to keep theft & looting at bay, so keep that in mind. You won’t be able to start earlier than 8:00 am, & you’ll need to be packed up & out of the disaster area by 8:00 pm.
Also, if you would please join us in praying for the residents who have suffered so much, and the safety of all the crews and volunteers, we would all appreciate it!
