FeralTrek.com Feral trek is an upstart startup, a travel blog masquerading as gonzo journalism. Think of us as an incorrigible child playing with matches.
(1)

Think of us as an incorrigible child playing with matches or poking his finger in every pie. We want to try everything once- just to see what happens. Our interests: mountain trails and caves, abandoned beaches, whirlpools, cacti blossoms, Redwood forests, desert canyons, movies and moon bathing, curiosity shops, high end restaurants and dive pubs, ethnic food and family recipes, outsider art, c

omics, and tattoos, underground manifestos and conspiracy theory, occult symbolism, Old Town coffee shops and billiard halls, Camp, kitsch and the bizarre, etymology and Twilight language, and all those roadside attractions along the highways of old weird America, like “Casper’s Alligator Farm” and the “Zombie Zula Palace” that you wanted to stop at on family vacations, but didn’t because Dad had to “make time.” Feral Trek is here to provide a forum for those who find domesticity not all it’s cracked up to be. Sometimes you just have to go feral.

Mushrooms and Clouds by Jack Beanstalker. Back in those days to watch a jet stream cross from one side of the sky to the other was the best reckoning of time I could count on. It was an immersion in a moment that kept growing and paying dividends. You lost track of anything that lacked …

New post added at FeralTrek - Alan Moore’s Erotic Freedom

I picked up Alan Moore’s “25,000 Years of Erotic Freedom,” and although there’s not a lot of new ideas here, the master’s wit and killer irony is on full display. The illustrations alone are worth the book’s price. Highly recommended. It makes a nice complement to Robert Anton Wilson’s...

Art by Jim Coke. Photo: Billy Montana. A tip from a gorgeous, saucy w***h perched on a bar stool at Shannon’s Bayside Saloon, Long Beach, set me on my way. At dawn I began roaming the alleys of downtown Long Beach, looking for a new work by a local graffiti artist, when I stumbled on …

A Feral quote by John Steinbeck. Feral Trek holds no religion, philosophy, or politics, except those loose tenets of the crazy Zen lunatic, but we do agree with every ounce of our soul and fiber of our mortal coil the uncompromising stance taken by John Steinbeck: “And this I believe: that the fre...

There is no better time of the year on the West Coast than the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. And here in Long Beach, the mornings are crisp, the afternoons warm, and the sunsets are marvelous.

A Feral Quote from Tom Robbins: “I’m for mystery, not interpretive answers. … The answer is never the answer. What’s really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you’ll always be seeking. I’ve never seen anybody really find the answer, but they think they have. S...

Millions of getaway cars travel Highway 15 on their way to La La Land or Sin City and pass the exit sign with the cryptic name: Zzyzx. For some, the sign just zips by; for others, it flames a spark of interest. “What a strange name.” “I wonder what’s down that road?” Some even Google …

Ring of Kerry We crammed into this rented toy car, threw the squirrels that rev the engine a few nuts, and roared out at dawn to revisit the Ring of Kerry. I’ve visited the Ring over twenty times and it’s never the same: misty days give you one Moll’s Gap and sunlit days another. Weather …
