Skipped a several super cool things in January...did a sort of with Dad in AZ when he visited us during Car Week here. Not only did we see RM Sotheby's, AND the wonderful, FLWright-guided post remodel, but also the ginormous circus of Barrett-Jackson and a delightfully unusual flock of small, rare and weird along with wonderful cars at Bonhams, then also the 'Elegance, our friend's collection of motorsports ephemera and parts, ran up to Sedona for a day, and then the absolutely delightful home of some of Dad's artistic car friends relocated from LA, kind of a design whirlwind, bits of nature, architecture, political theory at SanTanFlat, racing and automotive design history packed into one week, topped off by an amazing sunset at our ranchito.

I've been thinking about the tenets of modernism lately, the importance of truth and eschewing all pretense. I got to study architecture in Vienna for a summer myself, and studied architect and polemicist Adolf Loos (“Ornament is crime”) along with Kolo Moser and others.

So much of 'needs Washingup' DC's architecture is euro-wannabe pagan/hellenistic, heavily decorated with so much mythological crap, it really is odd to think that folks who wanted honest, simple, minimalistic governance and freedom from monarchial overreach went for this stylistic direction - or did they?

A great, timeless article here says what I've been thinking; as it relates to honesty in design, lack of pretense and anti-decoration of modernism...although, it does mistakenly credit Hi**er with the Autobahn, which was begun by an entrepreneurial group of driving enthusiasts of course... Some excellent lines ensue;
