🎸Tell us a bit about yourself🎸
I have a broad ranging background. I was once "turning wrenches" out west but now chase my passion of singing and song writing. Music runs deep in my veins; I've been singing since the young age of 5 and writing since I was 12.
🎸What kind of music do you play?🎸
I gravitate towards country, folk and blues - I'm very eclectic in my playing and song-writing.
🎸Can you share some thoughts about playing in BruceGreySimcoe?🎸
What an eye opener! I had no idea how strong the music community/scene is here. Since growing up/ living in smaller communities I figured you would have to move to a big city to pursue music. Boy, was I wrong! It's amazing here.
🎸What are some of your favourite venues here?🎸
That's a tough one.. there's so many! The Dunes Restaurant and Bar in Sauble Beach, Jazzmyns & Heartwood Hall in Owen Sound, the Thornbury Market, The Queens in Port Elgin and Red Bay Lodge in Red Bay. I could go on an on to be honest there's so many !
🎸Did you start out living here or move to the area? 🎸
I moved here about 3 years ago from Peace River Alberta, but I'm a 'northern gal' having been born and raised in a small community in northern Ontario. This is the BEST move I've made though in coming to this area.
🎸What advice do you have for visitors to the region?🎸
Don't skip out on the unique venues in each area, take time to embrace the towns and communities, and do NOT I repeat do not miss out on the beautiful landscapes all around this area. Love our area as if it's your own 💚

🎸Tell us a bit about yourself🎸
I'm a jazz guitarist/composer from northern Ontario. I started performing in a jazz quartet in North Bay when I was 17. I've performed all over Ontario in the past 20 years.
🎸What kind of music do you play?🎸
My original releases are a fusion of jazz and electronica, but sometimes I still perform straight-ahead contemporary jazz.
🎸Can you share some thoughts about playing in BruceGreySimcoe?🎸
When I started out in Northern Ontario you could call up a restaurant/bar and ask them if they wanted live jazz, and often they'd hire you.
When I moved to Barrie over 15 years ago, I tried cold calling like that, and the response would be, "Do you have an album we could listen to?"
I think it's because Simcoe has a very vibrant and talented music scene, where there’s a high bar for professionalism expected.
🎸What are some of your favourite venues here?🎸
I would love to play Five Points Theatre, or Georgian Theatre. Common Good Café puts on some very nice, intimate, ticketed shows, and I'm glad the Joe Huron Trio is back again playing weekly jazz shows at British Arms.
🎸Did you start out living here or move to the area?🎸
I've lived all over Ontario and had a chance to experience and participate in live music communities in Sudbury, North Bay, Toronto, London, and Barrie. But I'm originally from Sudbury.
🎸What advice do you have for visitors to the region?🎸
Kind of a local jazz legend and best kept jazz secret, jazz guitarist, Joe Huron. He still performs every Sunday afternoon at British Arms in Barrie if you need to make plans to listen to some great live jazz in Simcoe County. And if you get a chance to talk to Joe bet
BruceGreySimcoe Musican Spotlight with Russ Robson
BruceGreySimcoe is home to some incredible artists and every week we’ll be shining the spotlight on an artist, musician or photographer. Today it’s musician, Russ Robson.
🎸Tell us a bit about yourself:🎸
I am a Canadian singer songwriter and recording artist originally from Glamas Ontario which is near Kincardine in Grey Bruce. I have lived all over North America and played in smaller venues from coast to coast. I have shared the stage with Willie Nelson, Toby Keith, and many others on my journey. I currently reside near Barrie, Ontario and am working on releasing a new single next month called A Million Times.
🎸What kind of music do you play?🎸
My music has been described as “Folk Grunge” which is a mixture between traditional folk and bluegrass combined with 90’s grunge rock and alternative country.
🎸Can you share some thoughts about playing in BruceGreySimcoe?🎸
Since I am from Grey Bruce and have lived all over North America it always feels surreal to come back to Grey Bruce and perform. Almost like a full circle.
🎸What are some of your favourite venues here? 🎸
I recently play at the Gibson Centre in Alliston for our tour kick off and that was a great little venue. There are so many little pubs all over BruceGreySimcoe, it's hard to pick a favourite. Also, if you haven’t already, check out Gussapolooza Music Festival. Always a great time!
🎸Did you start out living here or move to the area?🎸
I was born in Grey Bruce
🎸What advice do you have for visitors to the region?🎸
Check out all the amazing scenery and little towns. Grey Bruce is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
