Review of Lotus Lodge Cabin rental in Lake George, NY: Upon checking in, there was not a wifi connection. I immediately reached out to Jamie (owner) to ask for troubleshooting advice. The end result after I had to call and work with customer support at DISH, was that a tech would be sent out on day 4 of our stay between 12-5 to correct the issue. Our daughter had an assignment due on day 2 and I needed to be available at all times for personal coaching calls as well as for my travel agency clients. Jamie did offer the use of her restaurant for my daughter to send her assignment, however this was not sufficient for my on-call status for work. We opted to set up a hot-spot and use up our mobile data. Jamie offered to “send someone” to the house during the support window, however we were all in agreement that we were not comfortable with having “just someone” have all day access to our personal belongings, food, alcohol, etc. Just before the close of the support window of 5:00, I reached out to Jamie to inquire if she had received any update from the DISH technician as we had been waiting at the house all day for support. She informed me she had not and would reach out. That was the last communication I had from Jamie regarding this issue for the duration of our stay. An hour later I reached out to see if she had any update. No reply. Shortly after 9:30 on Tuesday evening, the DISH technician arrived and shared that he received a call from the homeowner and that based on the treatment he received, his manager was prepared not to have the service restored. The technician did inform the homeowner that he was approximately an hour away. We were not notified of the new anticipated arrival time and were quite upset to be disturbed at that late hour (not to mention there were children sleeping.) Thankfully, service was restored. Although slow, it did continue to work for the remaining 3.5 days of our stay.
On the following day, I sent Jamie an email making her aware of our concerns with the wifi situation and lack of communication from her. I also made her aware that the lights had been dipping and that the power company had come to the neighboring house after receiving reports of the same. The next day, shortly before leaving for plans that were originally set for the day spent waiting for the DISH service, the power company showed up to turn off power to the house due to unsafe power surges being caused by the central air system. We once again missed out on plans to be at the house while both the power company and Jamie’s representative Tony were on premises for approximately 3 hours. Our concerns were relayed to Tony regarding the wifi and lack of communication. She offered her office for wifi or suggested we sit in the McDonald’s parking lot. Tony informed us that should the power surge again, we were to go into the basement, shut off the central air system and use the window units. This did indeed occur and we had to install a 4th unit from the master bedroom closet in order to attempt to keep the house comfortable. With only 4 units and a very large floor plan, you can imagine that the temperature was difficult to regulate. I informed both Jamie and Tony that we had to switch over to the units and that we would prefer to have someone come out the following day as it was once again late and my father-in-law was under the weather. Tony informed me she would contact us on the following day. Tony informed me after reaching out to her two days later that the service would happen after we checked out so as not to inconvenience us further. Again, there was no communication, and we were quite honesty expecting that there would be another day lost to house repairs.
Although I expressed our displeasure and assumption that either a refund of our “lost time” or at the very least, an offer to return for a long weekend or to extend our stay, I have not heard from Jamie since the day the power was turned off. Although she was very willing to make suggestions and had a phenomenal response time leading up to our stay, the lack of communication and responsibility for our loss of time is simply inexcusable.
As a travel agent specializing in family vacations and rentals, I write regular reviews of the places we stay in order to keep my clients informed. Many are eager to book the same locations after hearing of a positive experience. I unfortunately cannot recommend this property due to the treatment and issues with the home. With a family in the hospitality business in Cape May by way of Hotel/Convention Center management and owners of a Bed and Breakfast, we know that treatment of our guests is key. It is understood that the unexpected can arise. In fact, we should expect the unexpected. It is the manner in which we address these issues that determines our success as a host.
