Remembering all those who were affected by the Easter bombings. The lives of so many were changed in a few hours.
I was on a tour with a lovely honeymoon couple, walking on some trails outside Kandy when my dad called me with news of a bombing in Negombo. I remember my heart sinking slowly as the news began to unfold, being completely clueless of who did it only made it worse.

Indian Peafowls are actually giant pheasants. The males are so beautiful when they fan out their feathers during courtship display. It's strange that they nest on the ground, despite being able to fly and having a tendency to roost in trees.

Rather than leaving this account empty I thought I'd do posts and stories using some old photos of my travels around Sri Lanka.

Been a very quiet month away from the business and running this account. Was supposed to fly in to Sri Lanka and have a couple more weeks together with but things didn't go as planned. With everything going on in the world, I decided to stay with Emma for a bit longer in London. We've been practicing social distancing for the past three days by staying indoors most of the day. It's so lovely to be spending time together, cooking delicious food, doing HIIT workouts instead of hikes, enjoying some good TV shows and Emma introduced to sudoku. How amazing is SUDOKU??? It's only been three days so far, but we are both coping okay. Hope everyone is keeping well, stay safe and healthy. When all this has blown over I can't wait to show you all more of Sri Lanka.

It truly is quite magical seeing the bonds between a baby elephant and it's mum/aunties. They are insanely protective of their young. The babies all have so much energy and want to run around everywhere making noises you'd think that is impossible for a little one to make! The mums and aunties are always not too far away, they run to them and surround the babies as soon as they wander off too far.

The 12th highest mountain has so much to offer. We'll arrive at a sleepy little village about an hour out of Ella and start making our way up. The first part of the climb is through beautiful tea plantations. After crossing a couple of streams/waterfalls we'll arrive in this eucalyptus forest. The steepest part of the climb is through here, there's so much beauty that surrounds you, it's easy to forget that the lactic acid burning in your legs. The eucalyptus fumes in the air helps too. The next section is through a native forest that changes throughout the climb and at the summit there's some beautiful empty flat sections to have a lie down and enjoy the sun.

This one time I was here about two years ago, a random man started making conversation with me as I was doing some photos. Turns out he's from the area so I asked him about the mountains behind the lake. I was just expecting him to just name some of these peaks and let me know if it's worth exploring.
His response could honestly be the plot of the next Tomb Raider/ Indiana Jones movie! He started telling me the most elaborate story of how him and some of his mates have gone out treasure hunting in the rocks there. He was also very enthusiastic about telling me about a Naga Manikkaya which is basically a gem that has these extraordinary powers and somehow linked to serpents. You know how you sometimes want to listen to people's stories forever because they are so good at telling them?? He went on for nearly an hour! Not entirely sure if I believed him, but it sure was entertaining He was kind enough to invite me on one of these trips, I had to politely declined.

It's easy to spend hours here just swimming in the rock pools and exploring around and trying to get to the pool right at the base. Also a great place to do a yoga pose and get some instaworthy clicks. We'll done for pulling this off!
This was on our third day of the tour. We've explored around Ella and then did some walks around Nuwara Eliya. We left Nuwara Eliya bright and early and got to Hatton. It was a beautiful day and we set off canoeing in Castlereagh Lake and had a delicious breakfast at a local fishermen's house. Afterwards we drove down to this gorgeous waterfall and spent the rest of the afternoon here.

Out of all the sunsets that I have been lucky to witness, this has to be my most favourite. This photo is from about a year and a half ago when and I was in Trincomalee together for the very first time.
We were having the most amazing morning canoeing in Minneriya and then we got to Trincomalee, had a swim in the ocean and met the cutest little doggo. Got here for sunset and sat on the old bridge and watched the sun go down. I've never seen the sky light up like this ever before!
After the sunset we drove further down from Irakkandi to watch a lightning storm. To this day it is one of my most favourite and happiest days. ♥️

Katusukonda ridge is right after the highest peak of the Hanthana Mountain Range. The views from up here are spectacular! I'm usually okay with heights and edges, but I had to calm down and take a few deep breaths on this hike.

We got here as soon as the ticket counter opened and we were one of the first people to go in to the Maharaja Lena. It's so peaceful just walking around and admiring these beautiful sculptures. What I find so special about this cave temple is that millions of people have come to these caves, mostly with good intentions, to find peace and liberation, they still do to this day. I think this is quite powerful and you do feel that it is more of a spiritual experience than a cultural or religious one.

Some old drone footage of flying around the hanthana range.
This is what I love about Kandy, it's so easy to get away from the second largest city in Sri Lanka! I remember the first time I hiked Hanthana and thought of how underrated this mountain is. I've been to Kandy a fair few times before, and had never climbed this mountain which is only 15 minutes away from town. It's such a beautiful place to hike in.

This is my dad, every now and then we go on a few adventures together. He took me on my first proper hike when I was little and I completely fell in love with walking. It was the most amazing walk from Ohiya to Bambarakanda( the highest waterfall in Sri Lanka) . Our roles have reversed a bit now. I take him on new walks now and we have so much fun exploring together.
This was when we went for a swim in Sera Ella after hiking around the Knuckles Mountain Range.

I have an exciting announcement to make about a new business venture that I am very passionate about!
Over the last year I've become fascinated by gems and have learnt so much about them, especially from my Dad who has always enjoyed teaching me about the gem industry here in Sri Lanka.
is a new adventure for me and I'm excited to bring you the highest quality gems from this beautiful country.
I am excited to take you on a journey from the mines, where the stones are unearthed, all the way through to the finished product, which I am sure you will find as mesmerising as I do!
I will be bringing you stories that cover not only the process but also the amazing people involved in this industry.
I look forward to you joining me on this new adventure!

Elephas Maximus Maximus. Roaming wild and free in this beautiful national park.
Captivity is cruel, I feel that Pinnawala especially tries to mask this. It's almost an open invitation to come have pretty photos with elephants as elephants are guaranteed, it is very apealing. .
In my opinion, even if you don't see an elephant out in the wild the first time around, there's an entire lifetime for you to try again. Please understand the impact your contribution has towards this industry.. Is a bunch of pretty photos worth funding what is basically an elephant farm? These elephants deserve so much more than being held in chains, disciplined by bull hooks and being ridden around!
There's so many national parks in Sri Lanka, just go see them out in the wild and you'll see a much happier animal.
