Thank you Phil Evans and the Yak Attack Foundation for chipping in US$500 to help offset additional expenses incurred during our camp in May 2014!

Our first fund raising campaign held between Feb-Apr 2014 raised only $7,700 of the $11,000 we needed. Our co-founder, Debby, had to dig into her personal funds to kickstart our pilot project! Pallas's cat, also called the manul, is a small wild cat with a patchy distribution in the mountain of Central Asia. It was recently discovered, unintentionally, by researchers studying snow leopard in the mountains surrounding Manang village, where the Himalayan Mutt Project held it's 8th camp. Among 11 camera trap set up around the area, there were 14 images of Palla's cat.

The species is threatened by habitat degradation, prey base decline, and hunting, and is classified as Near Threatened by IUCN. Before, Palla's cat has led a secret life, now it has come closer to human habitation. Making the work of the Himalayan Mutt Project ever more urgent. Last year we came real close to encountering red panda in the village of Phakding and Koshigaun, in the Everest Solukhumbu region. We found red panda p**p and loadsa red panda paw prints. Simply called "Rato panda" in Nepali, locals in Phakding and Koshigaun told us how the red panda are "often sighted because they are attacked by dogs." No one knows exactly how many wild animals get taken by domestic dogs either for fun or for food. We need to manage dog populations in the mountains today before it's too late.
