Let’s Celebrate the 214th Anniversary of Mexico’s Independence!
In Mexico, the celebration of Independence is an event that fills us with pride and distinguishes us as a nation rich in history, culture, and traditions. On September 15th and 16th, we unite to commemorate the freedom and identity of our country with vibrant festivities.
What to Expect During These Festivities?
On September 15th, the famous Grito de Independencia takes place, a ceremony that recreates the historic "Grito de Independencia" by Miguel Hidalgo. In Puerto Vallarta, the celebration begins at 6:00 p.m. with public concerts featuring Mexican music, traditional dances, and delicious Mexican food. The official "grito", which marks the highlight of the night, takes place at 11:00 p.m..
In addition to the excitement of the "grito," in Puerto Vallarta, you can enjoy performances by the Xiutla Ballet, the International Mariachi of Mexico, and La Sonora Dinamita.
On September 16th, Independence Day will be marked by a civic-military parade, starting at 8:30 a.m. The parade will begin at the corner of Guerrero and Morelos streets and will end at Hidalgo Park.
In Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit, the festivities will be held in the town of Valle de Banderas. Celebrations will start on September 15th at 7:00 p.m., featuring a cultural program with music and a performance by Pancho Barraza. While the exact timing of the September 16th parade has not been confirmed, it typically starts between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m..
Tips for Enjoying the Festivities:
- Arrive early: Public squares and main streets in both Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas fill up quickly. Arriving early will help you find a good spot.
- Wear comfortable clothing: The festivities last for several hours, so it's important to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, and be prepared for the heat.
- Stay hydrated: Make sure to bring or buy water during the event, especially if you plan to stay for a long time in the squares.
- Identify parking areas: In Bahía de Banderas, the municipal government has provided three parking lots in different parts of Valle de Banderas. Knowing their locations will make it easier for you to access the event.
- Enjoy traditional food: Take advantage of the wide variety of traditional Mexican dishes available during the celebrations, such as pozole, tamales, and other Mexican snacks.
